For the TV

It is not too often that I recommend a product but I have to say this one has been helpful. I bought an Ultra Gauge, similar to a Scan Gauge but a lot less money and with more features to monitor fuel consumption during towing. This was brought about by my trip towing CR to Indiana and bucking a strong head wind all the way. The question was at what speed was I using the least amount of fuel and was drafting the semi in front a good idea

We should have CR in another week or so but I have come to really appreciate this thing for just around town. With my car it is made a difference in how I drive, and the gas is going a little bit further. One of the things that I particularly like about it is that it will since it is plugged into the OBD-II socket also read trouble codes and even pending trouble codes and give an alarm. My Subaru is old enough that I'm starting to have a few issues with it. Driving not too long ago I was getting a pending trouble code alarm which proved to be one of the catalytic converters not performing as well as it should have. A change in gas brand and a good hard drive seems to taking care of that as there are no longer any pending codes. Our trip out to California one of the areas of concern two is coolant temperature and this has both an alarm and will tell you what the actual temperature is. For my car there are 49 gauges available out of 74 possible that they Ultra Gauge will measure it varies with what the vehicle monitors. http://www.ultra-gauge.com

Tempting. Besides reading codes can this also clear codes? The abs/brake light was on in my pickup and the speedo, quit working under 30mph, read up on it and the abs sensor and speed sensor are one and the same. Had it scanned and it was the sensor, cost about $120 to have it scanned, the sensor and labor and the code cleared. Have a trip coming up in a couple weeks, how fast was shipping?

Shipping was less than a week. Clearing codes, I do not remember but you can down load the instruction manual which when printed out is four times larger than the gauge :D What this thing will do is amazing and the hypermilers are migrating to it over the Scan Gauge, but what I found most interesting is the diagnostic stuff it will do.

Aaron, I believe it will clear the codes. Also, Most chain parts stores will scan the codes for you for free. Depending on where you are (California for instance), they won't clear the code unless you buy parts and fix the car. Around here, they will clear it for you. If all you want is a code reader with clearing abilities, you can buy a cable that will hook up to your laptop for about $30 and use free software to read and clear codes in remote areas. There is also one that will link up to a smartphone via bluetooth for a little more money.
The Ultraguage Is by far the most functionality for the money, though.

Electrical tape over the "check engine" light. If I hear a strange noise. Means the radio is not loud enough.

I went ahead and ordered one, I will assign the front seat passenger as co-pilot on my upcoming trip, now I just hope that my semi-functioning gas guage doesn't mess with some of the features, it goes from full to empty, then back and forth, it usually makes me paranoid when it goes to empty and stays there in the middle of nowhere, I always reset the trip meter when I refuel.
