The I.H.A N.O. option For the Men

Postby len19070 » Fri Jul 06, 2012 2:44 pm

At the end of a long Day in my shop I sit back and just look at the trailers.

My family just thinks I'm out there drinking Beer...But I'm thinking!

Some of the best ideas are the simplest.

Like my newest easy option the I.H.A N.O.

On all my Teardrops I put an outside light over the door. Now I put the switches to those lights on the inside, just above the door.

Why?

Because in the middle of the night when somebody says "I Heard A Noise Outside" I don't have to get out of bed, open the door, turn on the light, crawl outside, look around, or search for a flashlight.

I just reach up, turn on the light, Look out the window and say "Its Nothing Dear".

I'm pullin for ya, we're all in this together.

Happy Trails

Len

That's funny. When were tent camping with only a rain fly, my wife SWORE a mouse ran through our sleeping area demanding the same thing.

I'm doing the same thing with my light, but I thought everyone had an internal switch. I actually didn't like the external switch on the porch light (and won't have them) because I didn't think I needed it and also didn't want 'kids' turning on the lights and draining my battery while the camper was unattended.

That there's funny. I don't care who you are...

And it sure beats a 6D Maglite shining out the window of a tent. Nothing says "Come eat me Mr. Bear" :frightened: like a flashlight in the eyes.

Mine is switched on the inside also and I camp solo. I'd probably forget cut it off (led anyway but I still would like it off when not needed).

I have 3 exterior lights and I can turn them all on with a wireless key fob as well as a switch inside the trailer. Makes it really easy to find the camper at night and keeps the bogey man away.

one of the things I did on two of my trailers was install a switch on the outside for the porch light
that way I could turn on the light from inside or out. I did make it simple which ever switch turned
it on had to turn it off I didn't wire it like a hall light with double throw double pole switches to much work. :?

As a regular "bear" country camper.....it's a nice option...I always put one on each side of a tear, switched inside. Unlike Steve E, who prefers to get out and battle a bruin with flip flops....I'll pass on that thank you. Doug

My exterior lights are switched the same way (inside above the door). Very handy for those IHANO moments, which seems to happen at least once every trip.

I don't know ... it kind of depends on the noise, I guess ... once it was a skunk, and all it took was the beam from my flashlight to startle it into spraying the whole side of my trailer (and my dog as she woke up!) ... that stuff doesn't wash off too easily! If it sounds like the two-legged variety, my reply is usually a very audible "It's O.K., Honey ... I've got the gun right here under my pillow." And along those lines, I haven't run into a critter (yet) who doesn't respect the sound of the universal deterrent ... a round of 3" magnum 12 gauge being jacked into the chamber ... ...! If they don't get that clue, at least you're locked & loaded ... ...!

What ever works, though, ya know ...

Besides the normal porch lights we have 3 led lights under the teardrop that are controlled from the inside.
If there's something that needs to be scared away I just push a button (inside) to sound this horn. :D Danny

I've found that when I use the led light attached to the 44 mag does wonders for what ever the noise is, like Grant was saying the noise it makes being cocked back does make the two legged kind pause. The funny thing is before she wakes me she already has the small .380 I bought her out :D, it may be pink but it still shoots!

Good idea. Now just add one of those "fisheye" peepholes from a hotel room door, and ...Wait...where'd THAT come from! You're right drinking beer does help.

Many autos have remote control key fobs that allow you to check that your doors are locked (one beep) and a panic button (many beeps) for something serious. The one beep allows you to tell anything or anyone out there that you're aware they are there. Most times, that's enough. However, you can bet I have indoor switches on both my outside lights and windows on all four sides of the TTT.

By the way,one time I slept in a pup tent, semi-alone, on 18 wooded acres, next to the Oakland Bay (WA). I heard someone walking around the tent. There was no gun, no cell phone, and no car and only one other person nearby (who would not have been much help)...nothing else for a couple miles. I didn't get much sleep that night, until I figured it out. That's when I discovered that deer are nocturnal and, when they walk, their feet sound just like a two-legged man walking around.
