Todd,

One other consideration for you is your stated preference for dry camping sites. In Wisconsin, where you and I live, you are not allowed to use a generator in our state parks. I like not having my Pet Cool being a permanent, taking up space and adding weight, part of my tear. Late spring and early fall are good times to leave it home, but mid summer and in the cold months I love having the ability to keep my inside temperature at 72 degrees. Remember Pet Cools both cool and heat.

In Alabama it's REALLY hot and huimid in the summer. Right now we tent camp, and we only go in the early spring, and late fall when it's not so horrible. The A/C unit in the Command Post will let us go anytime. If we stuck to early spring and late fall we could probably get by without it. We want to spend more time camping, so the A/C is pretty much nessesary for us.

after thinking I would never put a window shaker in my td, and planning on putting my ice powered A/C, I found myself crunched for time, a couple min. with a saw and I have A/C installed in my galley wall, got to keep the wife happy.

Put me in the category of better to have it and not need it than to not have it. I guess I'm just the unlucky one but I spent a week in Rocky Mountain National Park and the high everyday was over 100F and it didn't cool off like you would think at night. My girlfriend flew out to stay a few nights and when she flew out of Denver it was 104F - so hot that the 737 couldn't load enough gas on the plane and take off due to the density altitude to make it's normal non stop flight to Houston. It had to load a partial load to save weight and then stop over and refuel in Oklahoma City to make it. It was pretty hot, I wouldn' thave wanted to be out there in a teardrop without A/C. If I didn't have A/C I would have slept under a tarp tent.

I also was in MT a few years back and I was up pretty high scouting for sheep and it was the same deal, 100F+ everyday and not cooling off at night.

I guess if you mostly weekend camp and have a choice of going or not then it's probably not a big concern. If you travel out of state and/or longer trips It's nice to know you have it if it really gets hot.
