Vanagon to Teardrop

Got this the other day. .Thought it would make a "Great Teardrop Project"
Picture it being towed behind a new or old Bug or another Vanagon.....Googled some images of VW's converted to trailers and saw that it has already been done.
But hey I could still do it for someone??

Just remove the center section, section the body about 8", build a galley in the rear, cut the bottom off of the door, some curtains,CD player, bed and a tounge and you are off to see the world????

Based upon what I see (axle placement) and their specs (weight of about 1300#-1900# and tongue weight of 85#) I think that this puppy's tail might wag the dog a bit more than I'd like.

It does look cool though.

Being both a VW guy and a T&TTT guy... this VW trailer is not very functional as a camper. I've seen em up close and was NOT impressed with the use of space.

That is not a Vanagon. That is the Type II Transporter. The next version that came out in..... 79 or 80? was the Vanagon. Ok, just had to show off useless information rolling round in my head.

I had a 1974 Westfala Pop Top, that was a great camper for me and I put about 100,000 miles on it over about 6 years. The trouble I had was I would go places only a 4x4 should have been. It always somehow got out of those places but I was sucking wind a few times.

Way back in the 70’s , we did a good bit of camping in old vans that we “converted” (8) ... Would buy old vans cheap and do all the “transforming” in my brother’s body shop ... Worked out Great , and a big step up from the old BSA pup tent ... ... Should be a fairly easy conversion to a towed vehicle , if you’re good at metalwork ... and have a shop space and Tools ... Some vans “convert” better than others, parts just fit together better ... but bondo covers many little sins ...
Gotta’ get that wheel placement right for towing ...
