Howdy All;

I posted the following in the Top forum " Threads about the forum!"
as a question for the Admins. a coupla 3 days ago and reckon that
they must be on vacation as I haven't seen a reply yet. So, thought I'd
drop it in here where there is a lot of traffic. Maybe one of ya'll can answer
my question...
Thanks for taking the time to read it and for any answers ...

hank

mikeschn, Howdy;

As a new member to the forum I gotta say that you have a fine place here.
I do have a question. I've noticed that when I click on the smaller thumbnails
I have a pop-up bar across the bottom of my screen asking if I wish to save the
photo or not. Seems like a lot to go through (click save, open a new window,
look at the larger photo, figure out how to delete, then delete again from
trashcan... find my way back to the forum page and continue with my reading...)
Then there are other pictures that are of a larger size and all I have to do is put
my cursor on the pic. and click ... poof ... enlarged pic.!!! Much much nicer,
user friendly, time saving and the fustration factor is minimal if any at all.
I realize that most of the photos are in the poster's albums but then again one
needs to open a new window etc., etc., etc. time consuming and aggravating
at times.
Other than that I don't think there is anything else I would want to critique.

You are doing a great job.

Posting images seems to cause quite a bit of difficulty for many forum members. There are at least three distinct ways to post a photo in the forum (there may be more) ... the first shows a thumbnail that expands when clicked, the second shows the image directly full size but to keep the forum easy to read may require some resizing before uploading to your album and the third is "attaching" the photo to the post (which I personally find annoying because it often creates scroll bars that make it difficult to scroll through the threads.)

Example of the first way ...

84156

The code looks like this - {album}84156{/album} -- replace { and } with [ and ].

The second way looks like this ...

Image

The code looks like this {img}http://tnttt.com/gallery/image.php?image_id=84156{/img} -- again replacing { } with [ ]. Any url can be used so this is the method to use if your images are stored elsewhere on the web.

The third way requires you to upload the attachment and then place it inline where you want it. The controls to do this are at the bottom of the editor. It looks like this ...

314646_10150480141198154_705183153_11076005_1881272803_n.jpg

The code looks like this {attachment=0}314646_10150480141198154_705183153_11076005_1881272803_n.jpg{/attachment} -- again replacing { } with [ ].

My personal opinion is to use method one when you are posting an image which needs to be large to see detail. This way large images won't cause issues with small screens or low resolution displays. If the reader wants to see the image full size they simply click on it. Use method two for general images. Remember to keep the size within reason ... Mike may have some input here as to the best size (I generally resize to roughly 720x540 images.) And finally the third method IMO should be for non-image files such as spreadsheets, sketchup files, and so on. The third method is by far the best way to make files available for others to download.

I too have trouble with some of the pictures if clicked I get the same bar as you mentioned I believe it is a windows 7 thing.

I'm running Windows 7 & when I click on Corwin's 1st example I get a pic about the size of his 2nd example except surrounded by a black, page sized background. I do hafta 'back click' to see other pix in the same post. When I post pix I merely upload to my gallery in an appropriate size, then use that url with the Img box at top of reply page...

The best and correct answer is the one Corwin gave. He explained it well. As a side note. If I want to see the full size pic of a thumbnail posted, I go into the posters album and click on that thumbnail to see the F/S photo. I do not click on the thumbnail posted in the thread. ;)

Corwin C, Howdy;

Great to have someone with all this aptitude with this computer stuff... :D

The first picture is what I was talking about. As mentioned by some of the other respondants
I too use Windows 7, and have scratched most of my hair off wrasslin' with these things (computers).
Have to remember that when it catches a virus to NOT pour a hot toddie over the keyboard ... :oops:

Thanks for all the responces everyone :D

MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL !!!!

It is not so much windows 7 that is the problem as it is internet explorer. The pictures will enlarge if you use another browser. The ones that enlarge for you now are probably hosted off site. I get the same thing. I use the same methode as Gage to view the larger images.

Using Firefox I middle mouse button click on the thumbnail image and the image is opened up in a new tab. I then click on the tab to view, and delete the tab when not needed.

Thanks for that info Bogo. I use an Intellimouse 4.0 w/firefox & use the scroll wheel for up & down & sideways movement but didn't know about the 'click' function. That's handy & I'll use it quite often I suspect. :thumbsup:

Howdy All;

Merry Christmas to ALL...

The primary reason I asked was I belong to several other php forums
and this is the only one that requires that one "save" a photo to see the enlarged
version.
Courious, ... must be one of those "settings" kind of things ..... :NC

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone !

Fyi i use tapatalk almost exclusively anymore on my iPad. The first method that corwin talks about for me gives only a very mall size pic which enlarges only a small amount to a st size. Methods two and three give an infinitely scalable size on the ipad, with so much use of tablets nowadays, its something to think about.

In otherwords, the first method give an almost un viewable image, a st size of about 2by2 at its largest.
