Is a pop-up considered a tiny travel trailer?

I saw a really small hard-top popup camper on Craigslist the other day, called the Coleman Destiny Roanoke. It looked like it was about 12-ft long, tongue and all. Open it claimed 17 feet. My Festiva has a towing capacity of 1,000-lbs, and the weight of that popup meets that maximum limit EMPTY. Does weight play a factor in classification of a TTT?

I have also seen popup trailers used by motorcycles. They must be TTT's, right? I found them in my search for a <1,000-lb trailer (my wife insists on a standy, and that's going to be difficult for under 1k#), but for the cost, a TD is a much more viable option...

a fold up trailer. not a tt or a ttt, its a FU....Take that for what your want.... having said that, they have their place in the world of RV's, It is better then a tent, especially if it raains, can have many of the creature comfortts, foe some, way better the a TD or a TTT So a glorified tent is the catagory id put it in
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

I would say yes, a pop-up is a travel trailer. And, if it is a small-ish popup, it is a tiny travel trailer. It has to be. Think about it -- What about the Hunter and Compact trailers? They are simply popups without slide-outs. What about the Kiwi-style hybrids, which are clearly hard-sided trailers, but have a slide-out canvas bed? What about all of you with teardrops that haven't finished setting up camp until your side-tent is up? A little bit of canvas can't be the deciding factor in the definition. Merriam-Webster defines a travel trailer as "a trailer drawn especially by an automobile and equipped for use (as while traveling) as a dwelling". I'd say most pop-ups are so equipped.

Whether you love or hate pop ups, I think this is the best answer I have seen. :applause: :applause:

I agree with becky. A teardrop is a travel trailer after all, just a special kind deserving a special name. 5th wheels, bumper pulls, tiny travel trailers, tent trailers, pop up hard sides are all travel trailers with an additional adjective.

Depends on the various definitions of what a pop-up is I guess and I just read a lot of different opinions on that. Like Sharon, Bruce and Jenn, George and perhaps some others, I built a TTT with a pop-up section that I definitely consider a TTT (see the lower icon to the left of my post), but is it a pop-up trailer? I suppose KOA thinks so, but I don't. Besides, the cabin on mine is just over 12' long so KOA would have to give me a regular trailer site...if I were to stay in a KOA which I've only done once during my 74 years. Neither do I consider the Winter Warrior trailers pop-ups. I call mine the Pop Top and I think that might be a category in itself.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.
