Skip, it could be awhile until Guy posts so let me say it is noble idea of a man(Guy) to get a program going that would take homeless/disabled Vets, teach them to build a tear of their own, that would be large enough to basically live out of. Instilling confidence and teaching them skills that they could use in the real world....Guy is a disabled Vet himself, who does pro bono work for Vets rights around the country...

That sounds very good. I am a vet myself but I'm not disabled. I missed being a Vietnam vet buy only 4 months. I joined the Navy in 1974 right after I turned 17, had to get my dad to sign me in. I was a torpedoeman's mate onboard the USS Prebble DDG 46.

So if you missed a war, how do you consider yourself a VET?

Have a good day.

You can be a Veteran without being a War Veteran.

Actually we took a 20mm round through the officers ward room while I was there. No one was in there thank god! Yes the war was over on paper but someone obviously didn't get the message. I'm sorry you feel that way but I joined up as soon as I could. :o

Skip,

I did 10 years, 3 months and 19 days with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children and consider you a brother Vet. You got your DD214 just like me. I assume you got discharged (Hopefully Honorable) just like me. You went through Boot Camp just like me. You are a Vteran just like me. Don't worry none about no one person says. Welcome, brother.

Besides, you gotta consider the source. Gage ain't known as the pot stirrer for nothin', ya know.

All I did was ask a question. Don't get so damn excited.
When I came back, I didn't want anyone to know I was a vet because of the way the public treated us. But a lot of you wouldn't know anything about that. And I guess I'm considered a 'Pot Stirrer' because I say it like it is, I don't beat around the bush like so many do.

Have a good day.

Yeah if you served, (during wartime or peacetime) you are a vet. We saw a panhandler on one of the exit ramps once, he was holding a sign that said, "Former Vet Homeless Please Help." We knew he was full of crap, how can you be a former vet?

Go to a Veterans office and apply for benefits and see how far you get if you didn't serve during war time.

Have a good day.

Durring the early 70s I didn't go out in public in uniform because the war was so unpopular that we would get stuff thrown at us and get spit at. That's the thanks we got for serving

Gage,
how do you figure. I am a vet, I did not serve during wartime. I am a disabled vet and VA and the VA administration take very good care of me. :)

Maybe they just don't like YOU!!!!!

Chell, go back and read my post again. And I get all the benefits I want. They'll even bury me when someone kills me (because of my postings) at no expence to my wife. Northrop would also take care of me for life if I acquired a disability during employment. Let me know how many benefits you could receive if you weren't disabled and worked for them in piece time. They are very discrematory. War time vets go to that line and non-war time vets go to that other line. And that's the way it is.

Have a good day.

There will be no more from me on this subject. And once they know me, they all love me. :o

mmm i served too the burecrats seem to think there are differences depending on the metels you get (I say get cuse all to often you just happen to be there and not really earn it at lest in my era of service). I can get the Vets license plate but if i go to the VA they would laugh at me. I could go on for hours but this former Marine Corps Sergent can hold his toung.
