Teardrop in a Gazebo/Screen Room?

Postby eveningprimrose » Tue Aug 16, 2011 12:04 am

We have a Little Guy 5-Wide and I've been thinking of getting a gazebo/screen room, to put the teardrop in. I want the screen room because I don't want to "hide" the teardrop, with side tents or anything like that. We actually tried it, a couple of months ago on a camping trip. I believe our gazebo is 12x12 and it fit, but was a little tight inside there. I was just wondering if anyone else puts their teardrop inside a gazebo. This is something like what I'm thinking of:

...for me personally, I don't see the point in putting a Td IN a tent...just doesn't make sense to me...putting an EZ Up or screen room or??? over the back as a an extension to your galley is fine...I just don't wanna hide my Tear, I'm proud ofit and want folks to see it................

Nope, no screen room for me. Just a side privacy room for dressing and other things and still there is plenty of teardrop not hidden. Guess I'm missing something.

I see what you are saying IF you are going to all the trouble of putting up a side awning or an e-z-up why not make it a bigger and cover the TD too.

A big gazebo should be fine for that purpose people would still be able to see it; you would still be able to use it.

only draw back I see is it would take away from the allure to passers bye

it would I think make your site less friendly and inviting.

now if you were to get one of those all white party rooms then no don't.

See...I totally agree with you! I don't want to hide my teardrop, either. That's why I was thinking a screen room because you can still see it in there, especially when the "curtain doors" are tied open. :)

It has been discussed in another thread and pointed out to me that any type of screen room or gazebo that would be large enough to put a TD in and still have room to move around, especially in the galley area is not practical.

When I had this idea it wasn't to hide the TD, but looking at pictures I see all sorts of multiple configurations, ex ups, side rooms, etc., and all do hide the TD to one extent or another.

I realize that a one tent fits all configuration may be impractical due to weight and ease of set up, but from what I've seen in most pictures would hide the TD less and make for a more bug free environment to boot.

Just because something may be impractical does not mean it doesn't make sense.

I bought a teardrop to get away from tents, and I went with tarps for that same reason. I've seen a number of tears so buried in tents and gazebos and whatever and my thinking was what a waste of time and space.

Getting away from the traditional tent camping seems to be the common thread with small trailer types, but with the ease of towing, storing, and set up of a smaller rig are also down sides. One being not enough room out of the elements. Some can just throw up a tarp as additional coverage from the elements, but others desire more. Also might make a difference as to what additions are made due to other factors, like "bugs" All in all I see small trailer types more independent of what to add or not as maybe compared to those who buy larger rigs. Small trailer types are total individuals as to what they do with their small rigs and that's what makes us all so individually great!!!!!!

Is there a particular reason you want your teardrop all the way inside a screen room?

I have a 10x10 Walmart First up, and I have both the solid wind curtains , and the screen curtains. I usually have the canopy just over the hatch area, unless it looks like rain, and then I push back further under cover.

I always have my solid side walls draped in place on the ground because at night I hang the wind curtains, push my tear back far enough to cover the doors (unless I am feeling lazy), and then I use that closed in/private area as a changing room/etc.

I've yet to use the screen curtains, but always have them with me just in case.

If you reread what you just wrote I think you might see why completely in the screen room. lol Its called simplicity, all your eggs in one basket so to speak lol I'm not criticizing your way of doing things, but you do this this, move that, drop this, etc., but with the original posters idea, back it in and your're done. lol Is it practical, no, but not a totally dumb idea either.

The original poster also said it was "tight" when they did this. I have the whole 10x10 area to use during the day/evening, and I can either push back a few feet...or not....and hang the wind curtains in about 2 minutes. I've been glad many times to have the wind curtains ready to put up quickly when sudden rain storms have popped up.

we've used our screenroom only once.....at a place where the bugs were pesky....but only like Madjack said as an extension over the galley. Worked quite well....a little extra work, but worth it that time. :)

I apologize if you felt what I said made your reasons wrong or invalid in how you did things, just saying the reasons you do what you do the same reasons the original poster is suggesting to not do like you do. And in my opinion the size they are using too small to really accomplish anything or make things easier, but as was pointed out to me in another thread that to achieve a size that would accomplish all might be too heavy or not easily put together.

I have a 9X12 screen room that is very light. Its new to us but intent is to use it over picnic tables if bugs a concern. But I'm also thinking an easy way to cover our TD when its in our driveway to protect it from the hot Texas sun. Rare that its not in our garage, but upon occasion can be in the driveway for a few days.

No need to apologize, Jerry. No offense taken.

I really was curious as to why they wanted the entire tear under a screen gazebo.

As has been posted on here many times, it's your TD & you can do with it what you want. No one has to sleep in it but you, & no one has to like it except you. I've seen many many different arrangements of shelter (tent, fly, gazebo, etc) from set up alongside to complete 'wrap' of the TD. I use a 10'x10' Wal Mart First Up that covers just my galley/hatch leaving the rest for shelter for one purpose or another. Usually when we're camped in one spot for a few days I erect the TexSport 'shower' shelter for a changing/potti room alongside the TD but a couple of steps away. I've also had the 'wind' curtains up or ready to go up several times when it was too cool for 'open' camping.

There ain't no 'wrong' way to do it, just your way & you don't hafta please anyone 'cept you :D
