Gander Mountain Falcon Shade Shelter - 18x10!

Postby MyChell » Tue Aug 23, 2011 12:30 pm

I purchased the Falcon shelter from Gander Mountain online and have been very pleased with it, so I thought I would share. I have it well staked and it has done well in the weather, wind and rain. The shelter is a 10x10, with two side walls that prove an additional 4x10 of shade. Sturdy metal poles support the side panel extensions. This gives me 18x10 of shaded area, which covers the teardrop and more. This is very important to my freckled skin that burns easily in the sun! There are two gutters between the shelter and the side panels when extended, consisting of a mesh sreen with a tapered loop of the same fabric the rest of the canopy is made of. This fabric is pretreated with waterproofing and provides some protection from the elements for both myself and my Chell. The only time I have had a drip so far, since July, was a recent rain where almost as many leaves fell as raindrops. I had been cleaning the leaves out of my gutters regularly - all dried up from so little rain here this month. It has been so dry that the rain knocked a pile down. There were almost as many leaves as raindrops! The gutter dripped in only one place - where the leaves had piled up. It sheds water very well - there has been no pooling of water in or sagging of the main shelter's canopy like some I have heard about. There was some pooling on a side panel due to the leaf episode, but not much. I do regularly check my guyline and stakes, so far it has weathered well.

No offense taken - I am not simply camping, everything I own is in the car or my Chell. This is the roof over my head, so to speak...

One always has to admire the gypsy spirit and maybe even be a bit jealous of those who actually embrace it.

I admire you for doing what you have to do to get by :applause:

Great set-up, good looking protector (the dog, not the teddy bear!!).

Good luck in your repairs/renovations.

Thanks for the positive comments, everyone. I suppose it is a gypsy spirit I am embracing, for better or for worse. I need to make some major changes, so changes I am making. Traveller, the dog, says thanks, too!

Traveller is a boxer and I will be sure to get a good pic of him for you guys when I break out the camera again tomorrow. He is my constant companion and will always be a baby in his way of thinking. He is such a joy to me!! He is quite the owner (ha-not me) of the Chell, he is in as soon as I open the door and loves its snuggliness - we have snuggled since he was a tiny thing and he is a proffessional!

His only complaint is the dark tinted windows reflect the interior at night, so if the curtains are open, he wants to know what the crap is out there - why there is another me & him outside!

....What a sweet looking dog! Judging from his face, I'm guessing he's about 6 years old? On average, Boxers usually live to be 8 to 10 years old but can live to be 12 with good care. Around the age of 6 and after, they are sometimes called walking tumor factories and have a tendency towards getting cancer. Mixing a little canned baby food carrots into his food may help fight this. I had a Boxer who had a cancerous tumor removed at age 6 but lived to see 12. I attribute that extra 6 years to the added carrots in his food as they are said to fight tumors.

I admire your spirit, living in your trailer full-time.

Great looking dog. He looks very comfortable in his trailer. It is said that people who have dogs live longer. I have 3 so I hope its true. I'm sure your buddy has helped you in more ways then one.

Boxer,s

Postby nrody » Sat Aug 27, 2011 12:37 pm

How wonderful to have all that love. I just had to pit butch our 12 year old boxer down last week. We had been through so much together. He ended up with lymphoma and it was just time. No more suffering. Brought him home and buried him in his favorite spot. Savor the love.

I have had boxers since 1997. Traveller will be 5 in November. Traveller's grandaddy Stoney crossed over the Rainbow Bridge 2 years ago Christmas. He was a very special old man. He was hit by a car when I was out of town - spinal injury, punctured lung, and paralysed left front leg. Through a lot of love and doggie rehab, he lived 12 long years - with camping, swimming (he had a life jacket), and quality of life along the way. He had quite a few tumors removed along the way, but only the last was cancerous. I have cared for a few other boxers along the way as well. My Dad and crew have 4 now and many friends have boxers, cause Stoney was such a special boy. Rambling doesn't concern shade shelters though, perhaps I should start a boxer topic elsewhere to tell Stoney's story. Traveller sends happy thoughts to everyone!
