Maiden voyage this weekend

I'm finally getting to use my new teardrop this weekend.

It's kinda a shake-down trip. I couldn't believe how much stuff I needed to buy, but I think I'm ready. Got many things on sale, some on clearance. Target and Walmart were great places for things to outfit my trailer.

Taking my 2 nephews and my brother-in-law to Moonshine Creek near Sylva, NC. Near the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's about 2 hours from the house, so not so far to return if this is a disaster.

They will be staying in a tent.

Should be fun.

The maiden voyage is always something to look forward to. I plan on mine in November, going to the Sebastian Inlet State Park to do some surf, pier and jetty fishing. That about a 2 1/2 hour drive towing a trailer. There's always a chance that I might get in an overnight shakedown trip with it in October if I can think of somewhere closer to take it.

We had the most awesome time! Went on 2 strenuous hikes. Had a great campfire and made smores.

The weather cooperated, as it only got down to around 50 degrees. I had my mattress pad set really low, like on 2 and I was too hot. Kept a window crack and the roof vent open, turned off the fan in the middle of the night.

Not sure I like the heated mattress pad. Think I'd rather have some kind of space heater that I can hang somewhere inside the trailer.

We only had a short list of items I need to get for my next trip - need some kind of carpet or pad for under the canopy - our site was alittle muddy. Need some tongs and a poker for the camp fire. Need a bigger storage box for my platform. The plastic one I got was ok, but alittle shallow.

The Paha Que 12x12 canopy was a real winner. It's enormous, stable and relatively easy to set up.

Items I brought, but didn't use - microwave and aluminum camp table. My coleman LED lantern blew a bulb on the very first use!

Next trip is planned to Linville Falls the weekend of Oct 14. Should be peak leaf season. Going up to Grandfather mountain.

I remember our first trip, I was WAY too worried about having what I needed and brought a truckload of stuff.

congrats and thanks for the pictures. Looks like you had a great time and I would suggest you wait for a couple of trips before you empty the cabinets of extras. My first trip was 3200 miles all the way to Vermont so I had plenty of extras and found on subsequent trips some things not used on the first came in handy on others.

A discarded 3 iron makes a great fire poker. We've used the same one for years. It even has a head cover so as not to get things dirty in the galley.

Brilliant re-use! That is right up there with the crutch adjustable table support!
