Cover for Tear

I would like to know what others have used as a cover for their tear during the winter months. I have mine in a carport but hard rain and snow can get in at times. I would also like the option of parking the tear outside occasionally when I want to use the carport for working on some projects.

My tear is a woody with spar varnish so I need to be careful to minimize moisture and sun damage.

Right now I am trying to figure out whether to get a cheap small car cover and probably have to buy a new one each year...or spend the $400 and get a nice cover that will last me several years.

I use my garage. I of course had to buy a shed to move all the stuff from the garage to it, but that only added $1000 to my project. My wife laughed, but agreed that The Shack was worth protecting during New England winter months...but will most likely always remain in the garage for protection when not on the road.

Followed the above trailer cover link (Larry's post) and it is "Specially designed for Forest River teardrop trailers (some shorter than others)." In the description of the product it states "Zippered panels allow access to RV doors and engine areas!" Has anybody else in here failed to design in an "engine area"...or is my teardrop the only one missing this? Out of curiosity I checked out the Forest River R-Pod 181 Tear Drop camper, and it is 18' 3" long and 3000 pounds dry weight. That is what heck of a "tear drop" camper.

Go with a waterproof and breathable one!

You might be able to find it in a car or van cover.

I was thinking of getting a pretty good minivan cover. I need to check the sizes available.

And I don't have an 'engine area' either....I guess they forgot to include that at the factory.... :lol:

I think I found a solution.
I was looking at etrailer.com's smaill pop-up covers. After talking to the rep on the phone, it seems that it will fit as well as anything that isn't custom.

the sides are only 42" high but it is 7' wide so that extra can be used to make up for the height.

I ordered one tonight and will post how well it works when I try it on.

You got the less expensive one? Let me know how it is. Right now the trailer is inside, so I'm good for awhile...but I will need one. Figured I might as well start looking now!!

I would have to get a custom one made...look at my avatar...I would probably be better off with a minivan cover! I'm a fake teardropper..I have a rectangular rig!

Dragonfire lets not be disparaging the very traditional grasshopper design 8) they follow the basic criteria, galley in the rear can't stand up in and they are great for those with just a bit of claustrophobia.
I have talked with Jeff at PahaQue and they can make a cover for a grasshopper. There is form on the web site to fill out with dimensions.

Hey Dragon Fire, If that is one of the few (100-150) 8 foot Grasshoppers ever made then I would definately drop it into the teardrop category...without the "fake". You see some of the unique shapes we got going in here? If it were the 18 foot then technically you shouldn't even be reading this. I'll let your conscience be your guide if you fall between the 10 and 16 foot range.

I found a used 12 ft diameter dome tent for 15 buck, cut out the bottom and can erect two of the poles and it fits nicely over the TD....
