What is a T or TTT?

Just curious as to what size limit there is on a tiny travel trailer. I have a pretty good idea what is a teardrop although there are some differing opinions, but when there is a thread about converting a 24' travel trailer into a toy hauler I think we have gone too far. This is definitely not a tiny travel trailer. I think the moderators should come to some agreement about what is the maximum size for a trailer to be included in the forum and to delete those threads which do not conform to the philosophy of T & TTT.

I enjoy the post on the larger trailers. There are only a few. I enjoy seeing different construction methods and ideas. I also think the TTT is more of a way of thinking, not so much tiny trailers.

For me...I'm kinda with you Jerome. Where does one draw the line? The engineering and other design requirements for a TTT are completely different than for something that's 24' long. Many of our designs and requirements are around, for lack of a better word, basic type camping packed into a small trailer. Sorry for those that want to do up larger conversions.

It's not my thing to make the call on, I can only voice an opinion...not my forum. A 24 footer is kinda out of line in my opinion. The dictionary says "tiny" very small, diminutive, minute....

For those of you that have attended a teardrop or true TTT gathering...24' is out of line by maybe 2 times and if you had to camp at a gathering looking out at it, you'd probably be pissed.....there are other forums for them to go to. So what if Joe Slunk comes in with a 30' conversion...is that OK?

Having built 5 teardrops I think I know what the T stands for the TTT should be covered by the meaning of the first T (tiny) 24' seems to be a bit outside of that to me. But, as Doug said, it's Mike's baby and he has the final say.

Mike won’t restrict the ‘size of’ or ‘what is’ a TTT because that would most likely offend someone. And we can’t do that because it just wouldn’t be right and/or politically correct. There are members on this board/forum that feel they should be included in everything. Just start talking about a Teardrop ONLY gathering and see how many 'it's unfair' comments you get. Mostly from the other side.

I understand where you are coming from Gage...but as a "teardropper" I've also been discriminated against in campgrounds because I wasn't an official "RV", backlotted to the rear near the RR tracks so they could show off the nice 100K stuff up front.

Both you and I have been to outings where it's "teardrop" only, or in our cases, maybe "vintage RV" only.....I've been invited to attend, but then "uninvited" since mine wasn't "vintage". OK...I can live with that and know what?...I'm OK with that...chances are they missed out on some great eats!......It's kind of the same thing with the size limit.....it happens, and yes it does ruffle feathers. If so...those people need to deal with it, that's the rules of the gathering or maybe in our case....the forum...don't like it, don't attend...set up your own thing. Suck it up. Doug

...some thoughts...a TTT should be no longer that 16' total and have only one axle...as we have opened up to cargo conversions, that, especially the single axle deal has kinda gone by the wayside...at this point, if it is bigger or not doesn't matter as much as the intent...in other words, are you doing it yourself, are doing a full conversion/adaptation of a cargo trailer, a Vardo, are you going camping or RV'ing...maybe even building a TinyHouse...I think it is more about attitude, about what you are doing...as long as you are an actual camper and not an RV'er,, I will welcome you around my campfire.......

Gage, we have the same problem down here and we only have 550 members on our forum. The most Teardrops we have had at a gathering is 14 plus the two or three from the "other side". Not enough of a prob for us to worry about yet.

...one is done outside(camping) and one is done indoors(RV'ing)...I should not have had to tell ya that one...16', tongue to bumper is not that big...heck, my TD is 14.5 from tongue to bumper and lots of canned hams fit that description........

...since you edited the original and asked about the future, I will say this, the original TD forum from years ago imploded because they would not include anything but TDs and preferably vintage TDs...to live is to grow and expand the boundaries...as long as we stick to the "doit" yourself nature of TD building and trailer conversions along with the outdoor aspects of camping Vs rv'ing I think we are doing right...just me and my opinion...........

p.s. the other option is to dump things like the Vintage and Cargo forums and just keep those that deal with the use/care/building of TD and smaller canned hams..........mj

No problem...for me..I only measure body size...not tongue length inclusive, but that's just how I think...and I agree...outside VS inside. I was only thinking in terms of refers, heaters, showers, toilets, holding tanks etc....a 16 foot body and that stuff.....that's RV to me. Doug

Doug, you are actually preaching to the choir, I'm strictly a TD kinda fellah...I think a canned ham is an Rv if it has a kitchen and seating inside BUT they do and are included here so.....................
