Smallest trailer shower ever?

Even though many thought it couldn't be done I knew I'd figure out a way to be able to take hot showers in The Glampette

Well, here it is, my tiny shower made using the bottom half of Kitai's dog crate, some PVC pipe, binder clips, velcro, and a shower curtain. More pictures and all of the design and fabrication details are here: http://theflirtyguide.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-tiny-diy-shower-for-teardrop-style.html

Set up and tear down are a piece of cake. If hot showers aren't glamping I don't know what is!









Oh, and with a few hangers it can double as a clothes drying rack if I'm ever out dry camping.

That requires a pic of you inside for reference of how you use it. You can be fully clothed (I have my comic book x-ray specs). I looks short I'm guessing you kneel or squat in the crate. Nice job with the creative use of materials.

Seriously though, we've added an outside shower to both our RVs - have a small solar water heater on one, standard RV HWH on the other. Much nicer than squeezing into the RV showers

HA! Bill, Fred (Alaska Teardrop, my buidler) said someone's going to say they need a picture of me in the shower And yes, I want to find some kind of small platform to sit on just a couple of inches high to keep me out of the dirty water. Eventually I'll get a picture of me in it, clothed of course. Better keep those glasses handy.

Andy since I'm a woman traveling alone I know I'll feel more comfortable bathing inside the trailer rather than outside. Especially while traveling to places I've never been before. Once I get back to CA and more familiar with the places I'll be going to I may decide an outdoor tent would be good.

Great home engineering on the shower and enclosure !

On your Blog you mentioned you were thinking about water
disbursement methods for the shower, and mentioned the
solar shower as a possible method. I'd say to use that for
heating the water, or heat some on a camp stove, but a really
effective and simple way to get wet and rinsed in the shower is
to get a hand pump sprayer like is used to spray fertilizers and
pesticides with. They are made of plastic and are a gallon or two
in capacity. A few pumps on the handle and you have pressurized
the container, then use the nozzle to get wet and occasionally
give the handle a couple pumps if/when the pressure lags. Is very
effective in rinsing off also - including when washing one's hair as
you can easily direct the water flow to where you want it with the
spray wand. We got ours in the garden section of the Home Depot
if I recall correctly. It is clean when brand new so there is no worry
about contamination from other liquids. Just dedicate it thereafter
to your shower use. They are very lightweight when empty too.

probably on here, and I love to "collect" and use handy hints about
ways to do things...]

I'll definitely look for the one gallon size tomorrow. I think it will work really well for showering. Hair washing I might still want to go with the other system. My hair is close to waist length and is really thick so the larger head of the other style nozzle pushed right up through to the scalp, I suspect, will be more effective. I'll probably test them both out and figure out which I like better and maybe end up using both, a gallon in the sprayer for showering and a second gallon for hair washing. Thankfully I don't have to wash my hair everyday. That would be a drag.

I like the idea of the solar shower bag because I read (on some forum somewhere last year) if you take it fully heated at 3:00 pm and put it into an empty ice chest to retain the heat it'll stay hot enough to shower with until around 10:00 PM that night I went one step further and called one of the manufacturers and asked if it would work to lay it flat in a rubbermaid container and set it in the rear window of my car and leave it parked in the sun. They said yes, that would definitely heat the water well. From there into an ice chest and I'll be clean and snug as a bug when I go to sleep at night.

Hey guys, the weed sprayer idea is mine! :;). I have found it also works great for washing dishes. So great we can all share ideas here.

Take of the long sprayer handle and add some tubing from the hardware store, held on with some hose clamps, and get a replacement solar shower nozzle from REI for about 2 bucks and you are good to go. I actually replaced my nozzle recent to a sprayer so it works better for dishes!

I'd seen it somewhere here or there on the forum but didn't realize you could get a 1 gallon unit. I thought they were all huge and would be too big for The Glampette. Definitely swinging by the hardware store today to find one. And I love that it can pull double duty for dish washing since I won't have any other powered water source on board. When not showering I'll have to figure out how to rig it up to spray over my giant oil funnel sink that empties into a one gallon juice container

I hear ya Slow! I was just telling Fred the other day I've come to the realization that I'm more of a traveler than a camper. But I suspect once I have the trailer and start using it the urge to camp will come.

My original intention was to use the trailer overnight at fairly urban rv parks while out on "business" covering stories for my blog. Now? I definitely see the allure of camping, being closer to nature, being more self sufficient, the whole nine yards.

Over Memorial Day, we were camping at a primitive campground, so I brought it along, along with our out-house tent http://www.amazon.com/Stansport-Cabana-Privacy-Shelter-Green/dp/B0006V2B4G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1370271658&sr=8-2&keywords=shower+tent. In a word, it was fantastic. It felt so nice, on a cold weekend, to get a nice hot shower just before piling into bed. It is not the cheapest solution, but it worked great. I bought mine on eBay for a fraction of the price of new.

I was thinking that a concrete mixing container, made out of plastic is just the right size to stand in and make a surround around. They can be found at the same hardware stores that you can buy all the pipe.

I have just the battery powered shower pump and head (Zodi) and sink that in a container of warm water. Showering in the heated indoors would be much better than out in the shower tent. There is a lot of headroom in the pointy trailer.
