Metal bucket on Coleman propane stove... Or if you have campfire, metal bucket on fire grate ( heats 1.5 gallons for nightly shower real nice) .... We have this galvanized bucket that has such a nice coat of black on outside that proves it works... You are camping, TIME is not a factor....

Metal container of whatever size you need, water, stove, flame. How tough can it be? :?

If i have a lot of washing to do I put the water on the Coleman stove when I start eating, it is hot by the time I finish eating.

Depends on what it's for.

If it is for general washing myself and/or bathing, I usually put it in sealed zip lock bags and put that in a black plastic bag and set it on my dashboard. Rarely does that not get it warm enough.

If it is for tea or coffee, teapot and percolating coffee pot respectively on the Coleman. :coffee:

If it is for washing dishes, the Coleman stove. When it gets hot, I put 2/3 in the rinse water and 1/3 in the soapy water with some cold to make it manageable. At the end, the rinse water, now cool goes to wash table cloths, dogs, counters, dogs dishes, any laundry that cannot wait until I get home and dogs.
Ever consider what our dogs must think of us? I mean, here we come back from the grocery store with the most amazing haul - chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest hunters on earth! - Ann Tyler

There are lots of ideas if you search "Parabolic Mirror". Other methods are black hose or black PVC.... but all require the sun.

Parabolic mirrors look really cool, but could be dangerous.

We do the same, usually we use the coffee percolator so it is easy to pour.

My hot water only comes from my trusty old Coleman stove. I never leave my campsite when the stove is on.

Back one hundred years ago when I was a boy scout our scout master devised hot water at the ready by adding a low fitting to a clean new steel garbage can. To this fitting was added a coil of copper tubing. This tubing was unrolled a bit and placed in the campfire under some of the coals and then it returned to the can. The weight of the water kept the tube filled and as the water heated it perked to return the heated water to the top of the can. In about 45 minutes we had 25 to 30 gallons of hot but not scalding water for personal hygiene and dish washing even in the coldest of weather.

Our Boy Scout troop heats water for dishes in a turkey fryer. We have one with the stainless pot with the spigot on it. The pot is only used to heat water. The burner gets used for other cooking duties as well.

Water heater, works great.
For 40 years of camping a large pot on the Old Preway stove did great.

Wow, now you'll have to go back and change all those snarky posts about hot water heaters.

Why would you ever need a hot water heater? I've only needed one to heat cold water
