Swing out ice chest carrier.

Postby teamredjeep » Sun Jul 06, 2014 9:07 am

Finished the first addition to our new TD. We added swing away carrier with a custom frame I made for Pelican 65qt cooler. Can't wait for our first trip we just have to finish packing.

Now, that's a hardcore carrier! I didn't even know Pelican made coolers. Are they as tough as their equipment boxes?
Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day; teach a person to use the Internet and they won't bother you for weeks.

Will you travel with the cooler outside? Or transport inside the vehicle?

Usually on outside unless temperature and trip duration requrie it to be out of the sun or trail conditions require more departure angle clearance.

As a surf angler who goes to Cape Hatteras, NC and drives the beach, I had my idea on this concept for many years. But there have always been something else demanding my money. I even have plans made for a version of this which I never took to a fabricator. My use would be for tackle boxes, bait cooler (to keep it out of the vehicle), rod holders and maybe a lawn chair or when driving on the sand. I think it is a great product.

It could also work for a "kitchen" galley. The uses go on forever.

Teamredjeep, can you pass on the manufacturer's name? Thanks.
Bob

I bought it on ebay for free shipping. Pretty sure it was directly for manufacturer as it shipped from same city that the manufacturer is in.

Thanks. Once I saw the name on Bruce's post, I recognized it. I have this site saved somewhere; but now I have it again to re save.

Oh great, another thing to design and build for my TD. Another one of those thing I don't really need but think is cool so I want one. A different design would work better for me, but the idea is great and now I have a use for my receiver. Enjoy, Chris

It really does many applications and possible variations. And if you are good at welding (or have a good friend) it really is not that hard to design a DIY version.

Curious as to what happens to your tongue weight when that loaded ice chest is hanging off the back of your teardrop. How much does the loaded chest weigh?

This could be a hand swing out table for the stove or prep area, once the chest is removed....

We will find out tomorrow on it's first trip. Because this is an off road designed TD there is less trailer behind the axle than most teardrops so it may not affect tongue weight as much as it would on some TD trailers.
