Ira is back in the house. Aren't you thrilled!?

Postby Ira » Sun Oct 11, 2015 6:05 pm

I'm back.

Many years older, and many pounds fatter.

I posted a little while back about building another, and my wife yelled at me. Now, I don't care how much she yells at me. I gotta build. Plus, I really miss Steve Cox. I hope he's good and healthy, as I hope the rest of you are.

This time...

I'm building on a 4 by 4 HF, for a 4 by 6 interior. No galley or rear hatch (I'll store cooking stuff in cabin while towing and pull out later.) It's gotta have air conditioning or a swamp cooler, TD to be heavily insulated, and a TV. So those are my only 110v requirements. All other lights and electrical via disposable batteries! And one door only.

And she's gotta be a woody, because damn, I love 'em.

I learned a lot from my last build, and I didn't need 90% of the stuff I put in there. I want to bring this one in beautiful, functional and at reasonable cost.

So the first thing I need is to review 4 by 6 side profile templates, and how to modify the base of a 4 by 4 HF to accommodate the extra 2 feet in front. I already have an extended straight tongue (very extended), so I'm okay, I think, in this regard.

Thanks for having me back!

I'm on the phone now and will research later on the computer, but if you can link me to some cool 4 by 6 designs, no galley, I would appreciate it!

Thanks for the fast welcome back, Fen!

The way things have been going for me the last few years, financially, a TD that gives me air conditioning and TV is about all I need in life.

I can always crap in the woods.

Dam-, glad to see you back Ira. Think I posted the same 'a while back' when you posted about building another.

Don't think I can give ya much info/advice on building the 4x6; matter of fact we've gone in the opposite direction. Back in November last year (Sat after T'giving) I wrecked my old diesel P/U & camper. Other guy's insurance co. gave me a pretty fair settlement so In January this year wife & I drove to Ft Worth, TX & came home with a 2001 Casita 17' Spirit Deluxe. We've reserved the TD for nice weather, weekend trips when we don't hafta worry 'bout rain or air conditioning. The fantastic fan in the TD does a great job if it ain't too hot/humid. We have a few of those days here in Arkansas; might not work very well in Florida?? I think I got the idea from your earlier post that you might've moved?? Hope not.

Hope you're doin' well. Sounds like you ain't changed your attitude much  . Again, glad to have ya back. Betcha someone here has some info on whatcha want to build...

Oh yeah, we still occasionally make your Bleu Cheese Potatoes dish. thanks again for that.

Hey, Harv!!! Yes! Still in South Florida!

And I can't BELIEVE that you remember that blue cheese potatoes recipe!

HAH!!!

I hope all is great with you and yours!

And I just remembered that I extended the axle on this trailer, which means I can do 5 wide by 6 long.

The 5 wide kind of screws you up for skinning materials, but I guess it makes sense to go that extra foot wide.

I think this one is a 4x6...not the right colors for a man; but, you can certainly get some ideas for your build's storage, etc.

Hopefully we will get some more stories about the employees of Lowes and HD in Fl. I always enjoyed them, and we make Ira's blue cheese potatoes fairly often at campouts! Doug

Hey boys! Thanks for the welcome back!

And Gage--I've mellowed. Sort of.

And I've already changed my mind about design. I AM going to go boxy, because of my limited length. It would be nice to have the max headroom the design will allow throughout the entire interior. So...

I want to do a log cabin design, with a slightly pitched roof and overhanging eave, for the looks effect. Short chimney extension on top to hold vent/fan. And skins...I have no idea how to get this log cabin effect.

I guess I'll start looking at log cabin photos for inspiration, but any ideas you guys have, bring 'em on. I'm assuming my roof is going to be built with trusses.

1) Don't you have to be moving for a swamp cooler to work?

2) Paint your logs on.

I don't know about trusses for the roof of a TD Trailer.
Wouldn't going down the highway at anything over 80 miles an hour have the same effect that a tornado would have on the roof of your garden shed??
Guess I drive too fast??
