Will that still work?

Mike,

Sorry to drag up an old topic, but I wasn't here when it was new.

Whatever antenna you use now for analog TV will still work for digital TV. The antenna doesn't care. A coat hanger will still work, if you can figure out how to attach it to the set.

What needs to change is the TV itself. An analog-only TV will need a converter box; a digital TV won't because it'll decode both analog and digital broadcasts.

A little more progress on the roof today... and now we are out of 1/8" plywood. And we still have the other side of the roof to do...

Mike,

Lookin' good! It is nice to see a well thought out plan come together quickly (when the weather permits). Your album is great, and I am sure taking so many pictures may have slowed you down a bit. I have a couple questions.

1. What type of fasteners did you put the floor framing together with? Screws or nail gun? I looked but did not see any screw heads.

2. What type of insulation did you use? Is it the bubble foil wrap stuff, or foil layered foam core?

Thanks in advance.

I put the floor together with drywall screws.

The insulation is foil lined foam core. It bends pretty easily!

Mike, you screw in wood planks to help secure the outer layer shell. You only glue the outer layer shell to the framing? Or you also screw? If you you do both, then why use the extra pressure from the wood planks? How do you fill the holes after removing the wood planks and to keep a 'spotless' outer surface?

Hi Mike,

I was waiting for someone to ask about that.

Originally I was going to strap the outer shell to the spars, but I didn't have enough straps. So rather than going shopping, I figured I'd try the wood planks. I had mixed results. The plywood is stuck to the spars nicely, but it's not stuck to the sidewall very well. I ended up going back and adding another layer of glue to the sidewalls, and putting a strap on that anyway. That pulled it in nicely everywhere except for the front where it is almost flat. So a couple flat tip screwdrivers helped that.

The next step is to coat it with CPES, and then fill the holes with Epoxy filler. That should keep it watertight. Naturally if I was building a woodie, I would have used straps or sandbags, or both.

I found using the planks somewhat difficult because the spars were not in a straight line all the way across the trailer in most spots. Of course I don't know which would have been easier, straps or planks.

Dan,

Either painted with auto body paint or rolled with the Rot Doctor's Uniflex 255. I'm leaning in the direction of the Uniflex since I still have 2 gallons of the stuff downstairs. And it goes on easy, and hides all kinds of flaws.

I did the same on the Baja Benroy, as you can see on this page

Okay Mike, it has taken me almost a week to read this whole thread of your build and it is awesome! :) :applause: :worship:

When I end up helping David (hinermad) when I can because of Lake Ontario getting in the way, I just hope not to slow him down. :?

But we are definitely glad we joined this forum - it is great!!

Mike,

Good point! But hopefully by reading each and every detail I won't miss anything that I can tip off to David, which will actually assist in our build.

(That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!) 8)

Well, we got some more 1/8" plywood. So I guess we'll be playing on the ET this weekend. Stay tuned for some progress photos! :o
