Yes, the campstove is in the garage. I 'll figure out where to put it tomorrow. Cheerios for breakfast, PB&J for lunch, something hot for supper.. I just found out my brother has a generator. I 'll go get it in the am--too dark now for that.

Yoly was born in Mexico and I was born & raised in Winnipeg so I'm seldom cold in our Georgia environment. Whenever she's cold I tell her that it's not really cold, it's just an illusion created by the absence of heat

How are you not melting? I didn't think Manitobans could survive above freezing.

Hadn't heard that one before

We moved from Winnipeg when I was 15 and relocated in Southern California (in a beach community) ... talk about contrast
In 1963, Life Magazine did a feature article on Winnipeg, calling it "The Coldest City in North America" (not my job to validate it's credibility) but it did point out the fact that the Hudson's Bay extends down into the province significantly which contributes to the icy wind that flows unabated due to the flat prairie terrain into Winnipeg. I do have memories of walking to school in -50F with 30mph winds and going out to play hockey at any temp above 0 degrees.

I quickly adopted the policy that "if palm trees don't grow there .... I don't go there" ! My blood has thinned and I like warmer climates. I dislike winter here but find it easy to tolerate. I'm always amazed at how adaptable we are as a species.

Our temps got up into the 50's today.. with wind and heavy rain. We finally lost the ice off the trees from our ice storm of a couple of weeks ago. We did have yet more people lose power. :? Our warm up will be brief.. we will be back below zero by morning. The roads will be a mess. With the previous ice.. our storm drains were kind of blocked / plugged, then with the warmth and rain.. we have some flooding.. then going back below zero... :o

They were just saying on the news in about 3.5 days we have gone through an over 100 degree temperature change.

You guys sound like you are going to have a great mess tomorrow. Glad it is not me. So dry here. Fields are all dry dirt, not enough moisture in the soil to freeze it solid. I can not remember that happening in Jan before. We should at least have frozen mud now or snow cover. OH well, I could be singing a different song next week.

We had a good thaw, but there was enough snow left on the ground that the humidity was at or near the dew point. The loading dock at work, a massive block of unheated concrete, tho under cover, was soaking wet all day. With the salt already on the roads acting like a desiccant, the secondary roads were wet this evening and the state trucks were out dumping more salt as the temps plummet.

Gee, Randy, sure hope you guys get some precip soon. Would hate to have a bad crop season next (bigger implication than most people may realize).

Here in north Alabama we have several schools and businesses closed because their underground water lines froze up. They only bury water lines about a foot deep here. Normally that is plenty deep for the climate, but it's not supposed to get down to single digits here. :(
We raise rabbits. In order to keep our bunnies from freezing to death out in the bunny barn we covered most of the ventilation grates with tarps, just leaving one open on each end, and fired up all our old style farmer's lanterns on the floor under the banks of cages. We also put a cardbnoard box filled with cedar shavings in each cage. Seems to be working so far, but the water bottles froze up last night :(

After 46 1/4 hours, I finally got my power back on. I told the IPL supervisor I loved him--gave him a good laugh! I made it, but after 8 hours of the furnace running, it's still only 67* in here, but it sure feels better than the 49* it was on Monday morning in my house!! Thank you, IPL (Indianapolis Power & Light) :applause:

Feel like I was in weekend lock up !

Parked the truck Friday at 4 pm and it didn't move until 8:30 AM Wednesday. Just chucked logs in the wood burner to keep the water pipes at the "banks house"from freezing. Had the furnace rolled back to 60 to take the strain off of it a bit. Went thru 1/2 rick of wood in the 4 days. It was sure good to get back to work so I could get back on the forum. Had no issues with pipes or heat or power interuption. The dogs and I just hung out near the wood burner and watched the boob tube.
Growing older but not up !

We moved from Winterpeg when I was almost 40. Now I sometimes wonder how I survived my childhood. I guess Mom knew how to dress us for winter.

Now 28+ years later we still call NM home, same house, etc. Winter here is cold enough for me; was 24 F last night, may reach 49 today. But no snow that needs shoveling.

-20 F back in Wpg right now

WE got some snow here yesterday, temps not bad. But there was not much snow so it did not help out on the water outlook much. But better than nothing.

Well another ice storm... :? At least I think everyone got their power back from the before Christmas storm. They had originally said just a little ice.. then rain.. but it is pretty nasty. right now. At least it sounds like a warm up vs cold cold.. so that the ice will fairly quickly leave.
