Ross's Runlite

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Hey srfrcrux,
The HF modifications that I did for the Runlite, is the same way I modify for a 4' wide teardrop. I have never been a real big fan of A frame tongues. I also prefer torsion axles over leaf springs.

The floor has 1 1/2" of insulation and no problems with condensation. :worship:

When you bolt a 60" floor onto a 48" frame....you only have 6" hanging over on each side. I don't foresee any problems. I also real like the wheels being tucked under the body of the teardrop. It keeps the wheel base of the teardrop close to the same as the tow vehicle. I don't like towing a trailer that is wider then my truck.

Carla and I really like the extra space in the Runlite, just wish it had a little more cabinet space

Hey Andrew,

I always knew that this teardrop would have a tongue wieght issue, due to the fact that the axle is set a little further back then most. But I really do like the look.
I haven't weighed the tongue yet. It is heavier then our Trailer For Two.......but not by much. Come to think of it, I don't even know the dry weight of either teardrop. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, I will take them to the weigh station. As soon as I find out, I'll let you know.

Ross,
Thanks so much for the answers...
So is that sandwich style flooring???
Also, I can't decide between doing just a 4footer or a 5footer...
Is the 5footer all that much work???

The floor is made up of 1/2" CDX ply, 2 x 4 frame ( 1 1/2" x 3 1/2" ) with 2 layers of that 3/4" blue foam insulation board and another layer of 1/2" CDX plywood.
As for building a 4 footer or a 5 footer, it takes a little more in the planning stages   :? The way I built the Runlite, I had to consider the fact that the wheels would be tucked under the body of the teardrop. So wheel wells had to be built. I also fiberglassed and epoxied the wheel wells and then sprayed them with black truck bed liner paint. No leaks so far
