Attached tents..ideas...

The guy I saw was not a surfer, but it was that idea. I think he had more of a U shape rod set up. It was a "woody", but I remember a green curtain. Could not really see the details. Thought it was clever, but I think I would like a roof over it. Never know when the rain/snow may come.

As you can see from the below site there are different types of snaps.

and there are different things you could do.

One site on truck beds brought up the idea to have a strip of metal that the snaps are up in then attach the strip.

You could although in rain it might not be as good put in Grommets in the canvas and attach a rail or boat tie unit ontop of your tear and just run rope thru and when it is down and you are traveling you could tie things ontop of the tear like a canoe.

I use to sew on canvas I used a leather needle.

Speaking of EZ-ups...
I was in the camping section of Target a few days ago and saw an item very similar to the EX-up only with an aluminum frame--MUCH lighter. It also had screen panels to keep those pesky bugs out. The folded package was a bit shorter and fatter than the EZ-up but easy to carry. $99.00--I would buy it if I didn't already have an EZ-up.

Whatever you get, I would not recommend fiberglass poles. We have a dome tent with fiberglass poles and if there is any wind it is, well, not a pleasant adventure.

on the subject of attached tents . Has anybody tried using an awning strip drilled thru a living hinge as an attachment point for a cabana over the hatch? I'd love to see some closeups of attachment points on tears for addon tents.

I have heard the aluminum framed ones are not as strong.
