MY TENT TRAILER DEMO PICS....UPDATED July 14

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby Elumia » Wed Jun 06, 2007 11:30 pm

Too bad you can't use it as is. Like Mike just said, Decisions. Someone will likley pay you more than you paid. I'd post the pics as is on your local craigslist for $500 or so for a couple days at least.

I'll tell you from experience, buying a cheap trailer to fix or reconfigure uses a lot of the available time you have that would have been spent towards building. If I had to do it over, I'd start from a new trailer and get what I wanted upfront.

Either way, you will have fun.

Got into it today...in the heat
I basically got it all gutted out, the 3 burner clomen stove looks salvageable along with the sink (but I don't play on using them so I'll put it on my local freecycle site)

STOVE/SINK COMBO

TRASH

I though they built thing better back in the "old days" but they just used panelling and stapled the frames together.

CHEAP CONSTRUCTION

Gutted and empty shell, galvanized wheel wells are in good shape, no signs of water leaks. Floor is solid, but I'm still planning on tearing it right down to the frame.

EMPTY SHELL

Also has a small converter with a 15A main breaker, which I don't know if it works or not so it's going too since I have a new AC panel and Converter

CONVERTER/MAIN BREAKER

NEW AC PANEL

Tomorrow I'll take the 1st load to the dump, and hopefully get it tore down to the frame...

Well it was a hot one today....98+ the humidity but I got the roof and walls off. Tomorrow I'll get the floor decking off, and then I'll be able to start measuring the actual frame to finalize my design. I'm thinking I can take off the last foot [bumper] which will reduce the eventual tounge weight. (that's where the "notch" is for the roof supports

TIMBER!

Maybe I've misunderstood what you're thinking of doing, but taking weight off the back will increase the tongue weight.

If the tongue weight is high at present, it would be good to leave a storage area at the back that can be either for light things (if the tongue weight is OK) or for heavy things (if the tongue weight ends up too heavy).

I must have heat stroke.....I'm thinking of taking some off the front as well. Since it's an A frame there's lots of overhang at the front as well.

Hopefully today I can get it down to the actual frame, and go from there. I might even trim the outer edge of the wheel wells and move them out 2-3 inches. Since it's a torsion axle I won't have to worry about leaving as much clearance as if it was a spring axle.

Took the 2nd load to the dump, this time it cost me $9.....roof/walls gone.
Just have some odds and ends and the floor deck left to remove.

Funny thing is the trailer weight listed on the registration is 700 lbs; yet the 2 loads I've taken (so far) weigh in at 705 lbs...and there's still the floor deck/plywood to go.

It's too hot to do anything else today...34 C with the humidex(94 F)
Guess I'll go watch the US Open...

:frightened: 94 F? You serious?? In Canada??? It was that in in Pensacola, FL 2 days ago and set a record. That's not something you would expect this time of year in Canada.

If there was any water damage would that add weight to the PO Trailer?

That is going to be one BIG TD...or is a TTT???

Sorry about the heat, I know it's miserable. Just have to wait it out.

My igloo's starting to melt, damn global warming.....

There was lots of water damage, but it was all dried out, and lots of rotten plywood/aspenite....

Once I get the deck off, I'll measure it up and then finally decide on a design. I do know there's going to be a galley....I have a 6' hurricane hinge I bought a while back...

You will have to take a poll for a design. After we see the frame and sizes. You might get an epifany.

Hi, Ken,
It looks like you're gettin' it done! You'll soon have a clean slate to start your trailer on! That camper was a good deal even if you are scrapping most of it. Nice find!
I sympathize with you for working in the heat. I built my tear last July when it was 90+ F here for about two weeks! My garage was like an oven when I came home from work and wanted to work on the tear! I sweated off a few pounds of weight! Good luck on your build.

Ya, the ice is almost off the lake........... :D

Pulled the spare tire off today.......PIC

And I put the stove/sink combo on Freecycle and they picked it up today....and I offered them the tail lights and running lights so there gone as well.
Only other thing I kept were these.....PIC

Since it's registered as a Bellevue, maybe I'll slap a coat of aluminum/silver paint on them to give them a metallic look since there just plastic..

Ripped some of the ply deck off.......

The outer frame members looks like they've been cut; since (not shown in the pics yet..) the area where the door was has a full outer rail. Yet the other 3 sides have a "stump" And they used LOTS od the deck screws.....and used simple butt joints on the plywood...The rail near the fenders is where the splice was, since there's 2 rows of screws on that frame rail.
