Inkwell Couch Part Two

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

The completed sofa looks nice. But what about your brad nailer? Did it get junked, fixed, replaced? Inquiring minds, you know . . .
Still graced with two eyes and ten fingers (due in no small part to luck!).

Just when you think a problem is solved, an uglier result replaces it.

I was wondering about the couch does it fold into a bed and if so how?

Hi Scott,

Yes the couch folds down into a queen size bed. The way we did it was we permanently attached one half of the 3/4 ply to the area that is the couch by day. And placed a second piece on top. This second piece has a board running the length of it (the green board at the base of the bed) that adds to the support of the bed when the sheet is pulled out. If you look at the picture you'll see a couple of 2"x4" s that run out as supports for the bed. These will become cabinets in the not to distant future, I hope. We'll extend the width of the two by fours to six inches and have these narrow cabinets for canned goods in one and electrical boxes in the other.

It's a simple set up and works well. To put the bed back as a couch we simply fold the mattress that is against the back wall, on top of the other half. We have some finger holes in the moveable piece of ply. We lift and slide it back in place. Then the mattress is leaned against the back wall of the trailer and we simply tuck down the center crease of the mattress. With the memory foam this is easy and stays in place well.

Hope that helps.

Hey Tony,

It's sitting on a shelf waiting for the time when someone with some skill can get those brads out of it.

In the meantime I purchased an identical gun (except for color) off of eBay for $20. We also picked up a small compressor that came with two different nailers from Home Depot. We haven't opened that box yet because we're still not sure if we want it. (I purchased the gun on eBay later that night that we purchased the one from Home Depot. I should have gone to eBay first.

On the other hand, the package deal includes a finish nailer.

thanks for asking.

Lynn and Paul:

The Inkwell is looking really good! Nice sofa/bed idea and it looks comfy too. Are you planning on going to Little Talbot in February? I would like to go and I'm hoping there are some others from around this area that I could follow up there. I'll just have to post something to find out. Hope your knee is healing well.

Thanks that makes perfect since, unfortunately won't work in my case I was planning on having it pull out and lay like a futon.
  it could work though I'll have to have supports any way. Yes I think it will work that way
Thanks for the help, Once again goes to prove why this is such a great forum

Hey Becca,

Yup we're going. We're toying with leaving for Thursday night, I haven't check reservations yet about the extra night of Thursday. We registered to late to be in the section with most of the others but we'll still be there. Are you free to leave on Thursday? We could meet up and finish the trip together.
