General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Several friends in Destin, FL started calling me Captain Dave 'cause the long hair with beads, necklaces, and beard reminded them of Captain Ron as in the movie. After a while it changed to Destin Dave like a takeoff on the Panama Jack brand name. It stuck! My username is DestinDave on all websites I use and my e-mail is always "Olde_Beachbum@..." I think both names kind of fit the lifestyle I chose years ago. Hair is shorter now, not sun-bleached, beard is gone, but the beads and the beachbum attitude won't go away..... 8)
Reality? What a concept!

...in to very late 70's, early 80's I was living in the Co. Rockies, working a pipeline job. A local bar owner tagged me with it, from the Denver Pyle character in Grizzly Adams

It's my name and it's where I live.
I tried that online dating thing a couple of years after I got divorced and I used a handle there.
It didn't take me very long to realize there were more games being played on that website than there ever were in the bars, back in my drinking days.
I traveled many a mile to meet three different women.
Two were very dishonest (Married) and one was nice, but spoke very little English.
I wouldn't advise online dating...

My Grand father is 1/16 Cherokee. Although, it is a small amount it is a part of my family history I am very interested in. I am also very interested in American History and the trail of tears, is a sad event that we should not forget, not just for the Cherokee Nation but for all the injustice done to the Native Americans. If you have not read it, there is a poem called "The Neverending Trail" by Abe Jones. It is a poem about some of the events that took place. There is also a very moving song sung by Hal Ketchum written by Randy Handley called "trail of tears". I chose this user name, not to be disrespectful, but to be a reminder. Also it has Tear in it. I would some day like to see (be a part of) a group of teardrops that travel the trail.

Wow, my mom is ¼ Cherokee. That makes me the same as your grand dad. Darned if I know where my curly hair came from.

:CC Oops, my math skills are falling by the wayside. My kid would be the same as your granddad.

No, come to think of it, that wouldn't be right either because my wife is part Cherokee, too. There are a LOT of Cherokee people still in Tennessee.

A couple of weeks ago, I posted this pic on the Benroy thread. This is my mom in 1957. She looks Indian here:

But here's a pic of me and my very NON indian curls:

Mine was simply something I came up with when I first got on the internet way back when. It was pretty much what time of day I was on the stupid thing then. It just kinda stuck and it never seems to be taken no matter what site I use it in. Musta been a good choice cause nobody else seems to want it.

SKHampton is my screen name for everything I log in to ([email protected], etc). It's my name - Stephanie K. Hampton. I teach computer networking, and my students have transitioned my screen name into skampton. I've been using this screen name for so long, I doubt I would be able to get used to a change. And yes I know its boring. 8)
