Mikeschn- I just posted a comment/query on another thread concerning tongue length standards for sizing,. I had missed this thread before, somehow. Could you make it a sticky in Trailer and Chassis Secrets?

Also consider that if you might ever be towing a 2nd trailer, or pulling the TD from the rear, you might want the tongue tubing to go all the way to a rear receiver hitch. That would be very strong, but at the cost of extra weight & maybe overbuilding for something that may never happen.

To me, the important consideration for tongue length is to keep it short, but long enough that your car tailgate can easily open.

I've noticed that I often get better gas mileage towing than not. Sort of a mystery, but maybe my TD tongue is short enough that the TD helps make the Jeep more aerodynamic and less like the brick that it is.
