I haven't opened mine yet. Do the uprights have to be a specific distance apart?

the reciever hitch, and extender bars came with the umbrella.

so you welded the reciever onto the frame then the extender bars attach to that, for your unbrella, then you used the same reciever and extender bars
for use with the canopy extension poles and clamps.


am i correct??

Hi Phil, yep you got it. Except the receiver tubes didn't come with the Automobrella. When I originally had my bike rack mounted, I simply had the welders mount 4 receiver tubes on each corner. Here's the front receiver tube mounted to my Little Guy rack:



And the rear receiver tube mounted to the frame:



Now I'm tellin you, this will blow your possibilities wide open with the many things you can do once you have this set up. Here, I'll show you something very cool that will apply to 95% of teardroppers with rear kitchens. Many of you may be apprehensive about having a rear hitch to carry a bike rack, cargo carrier, etc. because it would just be in the way of the most functional area of your teardrop being the rear kitchen. But this...



... quickly turns into this...




Your bike rack, extra cargo rack, whatever, is out of the way, but still mounted, secured, and functional at your campsite. You could even have carry a larger cooler on a cargo rack, a hitch grill or some other cooking stuff, and it would be out of the way but right there close to your kitchen... it's endless.

Another good thing is that your rack and bikes are locked and secured to the tear providing a good theft deterant. Hey, to a certain extent it protects the whole tear. I mean if stolen, there isn't a cop in their right mind that would see something like this going down the street and not pull it over.

Hi Hiker Chick, thanks. And yes, that is the beauty of this set up - it's so flexible. With the telescoping Automobrella bars (or the made equivalent) you have forward and backward options putting more of the canopy over the tear and platform or vise versa. And with the canopy itself, you can simply slide the cross member poles to one side so that you have maximum overhang towards the platform. And lastly with having 4 receiver tubes, I just pop in a 9 foot market umbrella (Automobrella's) opposite the canopy for complete platform coverage and it also protects the opposite door from rain too if traveling with a companion.

Glad I could help. Yes, everything easily fits in the much talked about rear gap on Little Guy Teardrops. I am fortunate to have a 2006 model year because that was the last year that this gap was enclosed and not open to and looking down on the mattress. (Whew) ...cause I use that area big time for storage. That's why you see guys doing mods on later model years to close it off.

Hi Judy, no the uprights can be in varying distances apart. You will just have more overhang with the cross member poles and canopy itself. You can kinda see it in this picture here with more overhang on the left of the picnic table. You can really play this to your advantage however you need it.

kudos on a very functional and very good-looking creation. that's just awesome!

but more important, congrats on beating the tumor. it makes me happy to know that someone out there survived such a devastating blow. i lost my brother one year and two weeks ago to a brain tumor. it was in the pons and worked its way down to C5, so there was no way to safely remove it. i was able to be by his side for many of his treatments and also when he died, and for that honor i am grateful. i miss my brother very much, but i am happy to know that no one has to deal with missing you.

Scott--LiL Guy should look into offering that receiver sleeve mod as an option. The pics you just put up of the receiver sleeve mounts on each corner would be a brilliant extra addition that, if offered as a mfr option, would really enable some cool options for owners.

And when I get the SunSpot into the shop...what perfect addition to my frame.
