A table seems like a perfect accessory for this system.

a rack that goes over the TD would be cool for canoes, kayaks and coffin boxes for extra gear.

Absolutely The front and rear frame tubes could be replaced with square tube. 2x2x3/16 whick weighs in at only 4.3 # per linial foot and cost about $2.50 a foot. If you sleeve it down slightly with 1" x 1/8 flat stock a class 2 ball mount will slide right in and pin securely. There are a number of ready made options for the class #2 hitches that could be used or modified to be used. How many options can we make to work with this concept.

1. side table
2. removable leveling jacks
3. mount for shade canopy
4. the swing away spare carrier that converts into a table
5. canoe rack and/or overhead utility rack / cargo box
6. front and / or rear utility or bike rack
7. grill and / or dutch oven table mount

What else can we add to this "accessory list"

Also, tacked onto the bottom of the frame limits quite a bit how much and how far you can cantilever something, but if you made the front rear tubes out of the square tube, the moment would be carried across the whole trailer frame making it several times more robust. even 1/8 would be quite robust, or you could make most of the frame 1/8 and just the 6-8 inches (however far you wanted to stick in 3.16 with the rear 1/8 for weight saving (may not be worth the effort though as it a little more work)

Whoa hoa! ... Bam! Now THAT'S what I'm talkin about. A rack that goes over the tear with the weight of your cargo off the body and onto the frame? I love it. Should have known that if one says that the possibilities are endless here - THIS forum is going to fill in the blanks.

Keep it coming. This thread can evolve beyond my original suggestion and examples to an explosion of additional ideas for having a 4 corner receiver tube set up. More importantly beyond the concepts, as ideas are implemented and created in the future, post your pics to help others. Two things float my boat ... creative thinkers.. and folks that help folks. Guess I'm in the right place...

I'm going to change part of the title to this thread to be more easily recognized for what it is in future searches.

Actually that is not so far fetched. The pontoons would slide into the fore and aft receptacles (on either side) -- turned inboard and above the tear for transport and lower and outboard for an aquatic duties.

A PET POD NOW BECOMES A DUAL PURPOSE CARGO CARRIER TOO! WHILE IN ROUTE, IT'S MOUNTED ON TO YOUR REAR HITCH AS A CARGO CARRIER. AT YOUR CAMPSITE, YOU REMOVE IT FROM THE REAR HITCH AND SLIDE IT FLUSH RIGHT INTO YOUR SIDE-HITCH, CENTERED UNDER THE DOOR. (No need for those leveling jacks anymore or storing this in the back of your tow vehicle.)

I've always loved this PetPod and it would really be sharp mounted on the back in transit too. Just finish the enclosure off with a same shape front panel that will slide up and out through slot brackets and tension clamps, etc (easy). Have the removable panel face the back of the tear when mounted to the rear hitch. Stick a license plate holder on the back of the PetPod and this person has a very custom look while on the road too with their own cargo carrier. At the campsite just remove PetPod, slide the removable front panel up and out, and slide the PetPod onto your door hitch. (I'd mount a handle somewhere on on the PetPod too.)

Now everyone has a way to accommodate their dog no matter what size their tear (or dog) and have extra storage to boot.

You've just experienced another "side-hitch moment".
Thoughts?

I had the same thought for the PetPod  Just a little different...

My thought was just to tack a receiver hitch under the door that the PetPod clamps to and rig up a single extension arm that would act as a platform for the pod so no more finaggling with the jack stands... somewhat of a PITA. And it'd look way slicker.

My ultimate plan is to cut the PetPod in half and add drawer slides that would allow the thing to collapse in half so as to be easier to store and travel with. Think one of those brown plastic collapsible camping cups!

Great ideas here! :applause:

If building from scratch, why not make the side receiver tubes part of the structural frame rather than an add on?

side receivers would be a great option for a solar panel mast for charging your batteries... :D

So to copy-and-paste your list, Bob, adding traildemon's idea:

1. side table
2. removable leveling jacks
3. mount for shade canopy
4. the swing away spare carrier that converts into a table
5. canoe rack and/or overhead utility rack / cargo box
6. front and / or rear utility or bike rack

8. solar panel mast for 12V charging

we plan on creating a low platform/table to put the ice chest on so it is easier to reach into.
