General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Slowcowboy, I will have to admit I enjoy your posts, although I find myself reading them multiple times to make sure I got it all! Some spaces and commas would be nice every now and again but they are fine.

I didn't go to college so I can't instruct or even criticize your writing, but by watching other people's writing and reading on sites like this has improved my writing skills.

Just keep on keepin on we welcome your posts however they are.

I don't have any problem at all understanding what you mean. The wife's sister writes the same way so we're used to that method. Have fun with your project. Bob

cowboy,

Don't worry about the writting, unless your writting reports for work or such, most of us haven't gotten enough practice in years. (read as since school), but, the more you write, the better it will get.

I also type slower than I'm thinking and I really have to proof read, but I know what I wanted to say and will read a missing word or two, into my proof read, that really aren't there in the typed version.

I also have to be careful with words that have the same sounds, such as to, too and two

But really, who cares, your getting the point across, keep posting the updates, you've got some great ideas and if you seem to be heading down a wrong path, I'm sure someone will ask, if you really want to go in that direction.

You could use one of those, but instead of a bike rack, make up something to hold the motor upright, and maybe a chain and lock if you park it somewhere. Would involve welding though, but not to the trailer tongue.

Just bought a new bike - went to Harbor Freight and bought a bike rack and a dual hitch extender. Awesome!

I made some wooden rail sides................reinforced the top one with a 2 x 4 and then ran my bars through it.

It allows me to us the bed and the vinyl cover and then have my kayak on top next to a cargo box.

Nice setup Barb!
After reading all the posts in this thread, reminded me of something I had read a while back, which helped me feel just a little smarter than I really am. So posting it for your enjoyment...

I take one of these and a 2 1/2 HP Hondo 4 stroke outboard. Note the Aerodeck floor. It packs down to the size of a medium, old style suitcase and goes on top of our mattress in the trailer, whilst the outboard hangs behind the head restraint on the passengers seat in the car. I put an old plastic basin below it to catch any water.

Hi Slowcowboy, I got the inflatable from a yacht chandlers close to me. I primarily bought it as a tender for my yacht, but also to take away with the teardrop too.

Its only 7 foot long and cost me just under $500. You can buy those pool toy inflatable dinghies for much cheaper, but this is made from real heavy duty vinyl. I wanted to buy something that would last and be safe.

It has an aerodeck floor, which is an inflatable matrix that inflates to make a rigid floor for comfort that still packs down into a bag. You can buy the same model with a plywood panel floor for about $150 cheaper but is rolls up like a barrel and is harder to pack.

I'm sure you will find a distributor on the US.
Kind Regards, BigAl.

After our teardrop is finished we plan to build 2 of these.

In addition we plan to haul 2 bikes.

We're going to need to get real creative.

Big Al,

This is a Glen-L design and actually comes with full-size patterns. Here is the link. https://www.boatdesigns.com/products.asp?dept=65

Lovely isn't it?

Hi Becky, Yes very nice, although I would change the cabinet handles.

Although I don't have any personal experience I have heard good things about the Glen-L designs.

I have made a dinghy and a couple of canoes from ply in the past and the ply material and building system makes great small craft.

Thanks for sharing.
Kind Regards, BigAl.

a fact brought home to me on my camping trip yesterday and the jon boat all 100 pounds of alunum on the roof of my teardrop.

its still a chore with wheels mounted on it to man handle it around and it still is a wind catcher and gas sucker going down the highway, esprially in cross winds.

SLowcowboy.

These are what I drool over.

I hauled my plastic kayak across N. Dakota and Montaaaana in some of those crosswinds. I did have to put another tiedown on, and lost a cockpit cover between Minden and whatever the next place was.

That was on top of my Subaru in the pre-teardrop days.
