Ha ha! Good one. We have the same model trailer (different colors), less the guy sleeping.

I knew I had seen one of those cars before. I just couldn't figure out where. Then, suddenly, I remembered ....

VERRRY COOL!

Way back in the WayBack I had the next model up--the BMW 600. The 600 was a "luxury sedan stretched version" four seater version with a rear passenger door on one side and a wider rear wheelbase. The front end had the same "refridgerator door" and frog-style headlights. Power was supplied by a BMW 600 cc two cylinder air-cooled motorcycle engine.

I loved that car. In low gear it would just about go up a wall. The problem was that it attracted almost too much attention. If I left it parked on the street, when I returned it was covered with notes offering to buy it. When I moved onto the campus I would find it turned upside down about once a week--college pranksters. Eventually all that upsidedownedness caused the battery to leak fluid through the rear seat and ate out the headliner.

Service was difficult because there weren't many places in the midwest that had any idea what the thing even was. Eventually, I sold it to a collector who restored it and it is now in a museum somewhere.

I sure would love to have that car now. The Internet would offer a lot more options for parts and maintenance.

This one is exactly like my old one...

The tiny trailer in the avatar is designed to carry our recumbents and sometimes sleep in. We LOVE having a kitchen in the woods and a place for most of our gear.

My Uncle had an Isetta when I was a kid. He take us for rides in it and he would drive it up to my parent's front door.

I saw a 600 in the junkyard a few years back. Was really surprised to see it there.

Brecht BMW here in San Diego used to have an Isetta painted white with the blue and red "M" stripes on it. The emblem said M1/2. I wonder if they still have it.

Nick.

... which is quite big enough and powerful enough to tow a small trailer, for real.

This guy runs the Welsh microcar club. To be fair, the trailer is a folding type and is in the 'up' position in the photo.

I can almost hear that car groaning:

"I think I can...I think I can...I think I can!!!"

I also visualize a real fat lady sleeping in the trailer back there, just to make it worse.

Why would you want to do that?

Dave was joking, but this guy ain't (the photographer apologises for not getting both ends in one photo, but there were too many people interested in it!):

The tow vehicle shown at this German site is a Simson Duo. Created as an invalid carriage in East Germany, this vehicle has a 50cc moped engine producing 4.5 hp giving a top speed (without trailer) of 34mph!

Incidentally the 1,70m length of the beds converts to 67" so, not surprisingly, this trailer ain't big! The trailer lights are powered by the solar panel on its roof.
