Pam Wright's Email Hijacked

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Hotmail has a box you can check and choose to delete, move, mark and a whole lot of other things including mark as unread. You just need to be sure your security is set right. Mine is set at a medium. Seems to work so far.

Might also want to look into Gmail. I've had much better luck with spam filtering with Gmail than when I was a Hotmail user.

Gmail also uses industry-standard protocols so can be accessed by any email client, if that is your normal route. (A few years back, Hotmail changed its communications protocols so it no longer worked with older versions of Outlook Express 97. Don't know if new protocols are industry standard or not. Didn't care because Gmail did work with Outlook Express.)

If desired, you can set Gmail to use "basis HTML" mode (instead of standard mode) and all ads disappear. (You will lose advanced formatting and some control options in this mode, but it works much better over a slow dial-up connection than Hotmail.)

In the past six months, both of my daughters had their email accounts hacked. I found out when I started getting commercial messages with ads from their email addresses. I told them both to fix the problem they had to get their providers (Yahoo and Hotmail) to change or reset their passwords in order for them to regain control, and then to put on a very strong password with upper case and lower case letters, plus some numbers and special characters to make hacking the accounts much harder if not impossible. They finally got that done. I also made a stronger password for my Yahoo accounts so mine won't be hacked. My MS Live email isn't susceptible to hacking like WEB based accounts are.

Sometimes I pretend to be normal. But, that gets boring...so I go back to being me.

Here's how to turn off the Preview pane in OE

http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/q ... e_prev.htm

Also if you would forward that email to me as an attachment. I have seen a lot of these pop up and with a simple look you can tell it isn't actually a hacked email account, but in fact a data miner let loose on a message board to collect emails.

My email is stuart

I'll happily take a look at it and post my findings.

Also on a side note for internet protection...

Know the differences in your pointers. Links usually cause a Finger style pointer and if it's something ON your computer then it's an arrow. although this isn't always the case.
HOVER THIS LINK To see the finger pointer.

Next I'm sure at one time you've seen something similar to this before.
When you see this Don't click anything. Look at it. Most of you will have C: and D: hard drives if you bought your machine and just use it.
Next time you go to "My Computer" Right click the C drive and GIVE IT A NAME then Right click the D and give it a Name also. You can even do this to your CD / DVD drives. Name them all. Why? Because it really helps you KNOW that what you see is or isn't your computer, but actually a clever image that's all a link.
What do you do when you see a fake?
Alt + F4

if that doesn't work then

Ctrl+Alt+Del ONE TIME.
Some machines will automatically pop up the task manager, some will ask you what to do. Select task manager.
Make sure you're seeing TASKS (open Programs) then select the Browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera) and then end task.

Trying to click the X on the image just executes the "Install me" command.

Do get Malware Bytes Run it. Update it and Scan. periodically. As a Security technician installing Access Control systems you'd be amazed the compromised systems they want their DOOR LOCKS to be installed on. Once after cleaning up their SLOWEST computer it became their FASTEST.

Check your computer with malwarebytes, if there is a trojan or keylogger, no matter what address you use, they will hack into it using YOUR own keyboard, those scum use high tech, fight them using the same:

scumware cleaner ( this one is perhaps the best that can be used free ( with some advanced settings you may want to pucrhase, but the basic is very very good):

get a firewall, that way you will know when something fishy is happening/ being blocked and waiting for confirmation, this one is very good, learns your habits and keeps your machine safe..:

again, clean your machine, and use an antivirus too, I use Avast free edition and it has saved me from some nasties that came via e. mail....

In my experience in IT, computer repair and my own systems. I don't like to try and repair XP. Just back up your data and "Nuke and Pave" it. you get a nice clean install of Windows and not a whole mess of junk hanging on to it. Once you have one thing go wrong with it, who knows what else is there.

Also in XP there is an L install option. If your tech does not know about that, Find another tech.

So far I do not have much experience with Vista or Win 8

+10000, most of the time, that is the best option.
