Post Office

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Randy,

After working with the Post Office for over a year, I can say that unfortunately that sort of attitude is pretty typical. Talk to his supervisor, make sure that he is written up so that some one from the 10% has a chance for a good paying job.

Don't get me wrong, my favorite aunt retired from the Postal Service and I have met a few fantastic individuals. I sincerely believe that they need a serious culling of the bad apples.

I ship items almost every day through USPS. That last few months all packages are getting damaged some way or another. Most are minimal, but if the shipping tube is Triangular why would you fold it in half, Cut a carry handle in one with a knife, flatten it under other packages etc etc. What makes it worse is the boxes used are From the USPS. Looking for inexpensive 38" tubes to start going with UPS. They still care about damages.

One day after a postal worker went "postal" not at my post office I ask the postmaster in my small town postoffice what makes so many postal workers do such a thing, her reply was the pressure applied by people above her to get the job done faster and more accurate not just saying "get-R-done" but to threaten them with being fired day after day.
I have a good group of workers being a small town they have delivered cards and letters with just my name and town, happened yesterday.

Some say do away with the postal system shut them down I say keep them I receive many books and there is something about holding a book turning the pages I would miss if I had to use a nook.

Ours is pretty good. They were complaining about me getting letters addressed that were not to my correct address. I explained that the letters were from my mother, who has alzheimers and couldn't remember or remember to look up my address. They immediately said, no problem.

Such is life in a small-- not even a proper town, but community. I sure hope we get to keep our post office here.

Don't complain too much about the PO. Shut them down? Won't you like paying for 700,000 to go on unemployment?

And don't forget. UPS and FedEx etc, only take the cream of the crop delivery wise. They aren't going to deliver that birthday card because no one is going to pay them $11.95 to send it to you.

I told my UPS guy he could brag to his friends that he delivered a camper! No one needs to know it came in pieces!

I avoid the PO at all costs!

My place has always been pretty friendly.

I remember I got a very, puzzled call one morning when my chickens got to the post office (I ordered chicks, rather than hatch my own). They were very caring and accommodating.

Then again, day old chicks are a lot more endearing than an 8' hurricane hinge.
:)

I really enjoy those springs days when you go in the PO and hear those chicks. I guess the big city POs don't get that as much. but with the rise in back yard chickens maybe they do.

I live out in the country and really appreciate my mail carrier. She has delivered a number of packages to me. The UPS guy I had for many many years was a guy that I went to HS with. When I wasn't home and it looked like rain he would put the package inside the house. He retired a couple of years ago. The new ones are pretty nice also. Fedex is like, who cares, dump it off and get out of here. But then they do not work for Fedex, they are independent contractors and own the vehicles. And they have to wear Fedex mandated uniforms, hair cuts and all that jazz. They bid like crazy against each other and cut costs or take home less.

Oh, and yes the PO does seem to put a lot of pressure on their employees. A cousin of mine was killed by a PO worker that went postal. He is now living in that big cement building. He killed 2 people and wounded a few more that day.

I moved to the very small town of Dolores, Colorado in the southwest corner of the state in 1979. About 600 people lived in the town proper with many more scattered around in the country side. A friend moved from in town to a rental in the country. His mail was delivered to his new address before he had really told anyone he had moved and he never turned in a change of address card. Kind of drove him crazy until he realized it was just the "country telegrah" at work.

This isn't about the "almost too big to ship" post but about the cost.

I am trying to deal with a person who took advantage of my recently departed ex-wife (cancer Feb 4).

I went to the postoffice to mail a certified envelope the final cost was $6.15.

but like others have said fedex would have been $12.

A side note: there are some not very nice people in this world.

Small town Rural P.O. Box vs Physical Address

Postby The Teardrop Nanny » Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:51 am

I have taught in a very small town over the years where at one point the PM insisted there be a P.O. Box on the address label EVEN though everyone at the PO knew it was for me. It always had my name and the words TownName School on it. It was kind of maddening to not get items in a timely manner, especially when my name and the school (only school in the area) was on it. I also encountered the problem of a P.O. Box vs the exact physical address so I began putting the address like this....
P.O. Box (with the number then a dash mark) - Street Number/Name of Street.

Some folks do have a box number with a name after in like P.O Box ### Star Lane. The postmaster has since retired and the postMistress knows all the names of everyone in town as well as school.

Does this mean all those forever stamps I bought won't be used up fast enough?? Sure would hate to see snail mail go belly up.

nevadatear wrote:Just the word "post office" is enough to sent me over the edge :x . I live in a very small rural town where home delivery is not available. You must have a P.O. box. Once upon a time, pretty much all you had to do was put the name, the city and the state and it got to you. No more. If the p.o. box is not on the letter or package, back it goes to the sender.

Have you tried ordering something lately? Oh yeah, you all have, you are building a trailer! Many computer systems will not allow you to put in a p.o. box as they general ship UPS or fed ex. But they use USPS address software, so if you put in your physical address, it knows it is invalid. So I can't use my p.o. box and I can't use my street address. :x . So if I can get past the "invalid address" and put in my street address, assuming it is coming UPS or fed ex (or I will call them and that is what they tell me), but my package never comes. Why you ask? I will tell you. Because it was shipped the cheapest UPS with an agreement with the postal service for final delivery. UPS delivers to the post office, with the required street address because that is all they will accept, then it gets to the post office, and they ship it back because there is no p.o. box. I am so angry I can scream. there is no way around this.

The post office tells me "they have no choice" they must return it if doesn't have the correct address. I have complained to everyone from the supervisor all the way up to my Senator with no results. They all tell me that is the rules, or to put both addresses on my packages. But guess what, the computer ordering software will not accept them. Nice try!

What is really angryfing is when it is normal UPS or Fed ex they will chase me all over town, and deliver it to the coffee shop if they have to, everyone knows everyone in this town, including the UPS man, but USPS will ship back my package everytime. No customer services there. YUp I am mad and if I could find a way to never use the post office again, I would.

No, I am not happy with my post office. Since Grant sent to my P.O. box, his stuff delivered just fine!

Debbie

I had a similar experence. A postal employee told me to include my PO number as part of my physical address.

The PO is right behind the DMV as a place I least like to go.

I got into it a while back at the local PO when they improperly advised me on mailing tax returns (registered is the only legal proof of mailing, proof of mailing is not recognized by the IRS). After writing and calling the Postmaster General several times, the offensive woman was supposed to appologize. She "appologized for the misunderstanding". Unacceptable! A few more calls and she called and appoligized for the entire incident.

I'm trying to learn the new address of the tenant that skipped on me w/o paying the rent. They offer "address correction service". I followed the procedure 3 weeks ago and have never gotten the address. Went to the post office, again, talked to two people and got three more answers as to what the procedure is. One fellow kept saying "I'm not qualified". I finally asked he what he was qualified to do as he didn't seem to do a hell of a lot. Then I called the "advocacy" phone line and got more evasive answers as to whether you can get the new address or not.

I vote for ending the USPS and allowing private industry to handle the mail (most of which is junk mail I throw away). We now pay our bills online and when I ship something I usually use UPS or FedEx. The USPS is a dinosaur and should go extinct IHMO!!! Allowing it to do so would save us BILLIONS of tax dollars!!!!!!

Cheers,

Gus

Try searching spokeo.com. For as little as $3 you can get thier life story. BTW search your own name and remove it if you don't want people to do the same to you (you can do that for free)

No joy!!!!! But, he's LAPD and "can run but can't hide". I know where he works and if I file a lawsuit the PO will give me the new address. Also I haven't given up on the Post Office yet and will follow up with them.

Cheers,

Gus
