Is a one-nighter "worth it" to you?

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Yes. There are many places within 2 hours of here to go to. I can even be in a totally different climate in that time or less.

I am incredibly fortunate to have literally endless camping opportunities really close by, some of which are only ten minutes away. One night? You Betcha!!! Put the cell phone on the charger in the TV and "forget" it.

I have a park on the shores of Lake Lewisville literally one mile from my house... It doesn't look very wooded, but it was the middle of winter when this was taken.

and there are other parks close by at the lake not to mention Lake Ray Roberts, Joe Pool, Tawakoni and others all within an hour from me.

This idea came into my head as I was driving back from Beavers Bend and fantasizing about when I get my land. I would love to have a gathering, but I will have the land for at least a year before it was ready to put a house on it, so it would be dry camping, and alot of city-folk might not want to be interested in a 2+ night event with no electric or water. Some might think that is awesome however, so I kinda wanted to get a feel for people's thoughts on it.

About all I do is one nighters. I won't camp on the weekends since my husband does not enjoy it and I enjoy being with him. When I work a weekend I get two days off during the week but do not get off til 8 p.m. and that is to late to set up camp. Only exeption will be if my kids invite me to join them when they go I might go for longer. And I enjoy the drive as much as geting there so 5 -6 hours is still doable.
And yes most people who know me think I a crazy

I do one nighters all the time, but the trip out to our astronomy club's dark-sky site was the reason I built my tear in the first place.

but, like has been said repeatedly the tear makes it simple, it's always 90% ready to go, only need to pack the cooler and the telescope

I have several parks within an hour of home, so, yes I will do one nighters. Prefer 7-10 days though :D
As for the dry camping, I really don't have to have electricity or water for an enjoyable camping trip. Give me a place to park the tear and I'm good.

Hi Thomas
Judith and I don't consider a one night-er. Having to deal with the camper there is not enough time for us to get settled in to enjoy the camping. So we do something we call a one day-er.

We spend the night in our camper which is parked in the garage. Before going to bed we play board games or watch Netflix movies on the laptop. In the morning I make breakfast on my camping kitchen stove, you have to use your imagination on this one. After breakfast we head out to a local park about five miles from us. Get us a shelter that's not being used. On week days there rarely reserved so it's easy to find one. I take my portable grill, ice chest with food and drinks and spend the day at the park.

When our kids were young we used to do kinda/sorta one-nighters nearly every weekend. We actually left when my husband got home from work on Friday evenings and would then drive for two hours. Once we set up the tent and got the kids settled it was bed time.

A LOT of work went into our weekend trips. It tires me out to even think of it now. I would pre-cook and freeze meals during the week for the seven of us. I would have the van packed and the kids ready to go when hubby got home.

At the time we lived in a low income apartment complex near DC. We ended up there through a series of unfortunate events and bad decisions. It wasn't the kind of place where the kids could go out and play, so camping was the perfect solution. We camped in state park on the Eastern Shore of MD with no hook-ups for $6 a night.

For two lovely days each week, our kids could ride their bikes, run, play on the playground, play ball, fish, and swim. We kept up this routine for all the years we lived there and made some great family memories that our grown kids still talk about. Those one-nighters were, without a doubt, worth it!

Happy Ending: We eventually saved up and bought a home in WV when our oldest kids hit their teens. After seven years, we sold at enough of a profit to buy our dream property in Florida. We are now watching our grandchildren grow up in the fresh air of the country!

We live on a mountain side and the town is surrounded by Forest Service and Park Service land, not to mention a city park up the hill by the ski area. There are several camp grounds (water spigots and out houses) within 15 minutes of home, but light years from the home stress. Right now we are still tent campers, and we will take several overnight or two night trips each summer. I hope to have the new camper camp-able by the time DS's scout camping trip happens at the end of May. If not, we will be tenting it again. But well worth it.

My favorite place to camp and often for one night, Saturday, is about 150 miles or 3 hours away from home. I enjoy the drive. I have gone 1200 miles in two days to camp at 2 places in the upper pennisula of Michigan. Ive also done Detroit to Denver in 17 hours by myself in the middle of summer. The Wazat was purchased to make that trip now in two days. And I hope to make Minden this year because it is right on the way! Thanks for asking Thomas, I two just loadup food and bev. Everything else is loaded and ready.

This would be the reason why I want a TD. I can't wait to take it out every weekend.

I work a 12-county circuit. While normally I work within 45 miles of home, I can go as far as 80 miles one way. The longer distances usually happen in the summer because of people taking vacations.

Friday before last I was to work 50 miles from home, so I took the T@B. I had to return home on Saturday because of other commitments, but it was worth it. If a CG has an early check-out time, but I'm not ready to go, I will unhook and pull into a day use area until I'm ready to head home. 8)

Some of my friends think I'm nuts for going alone, but I enjoy it.

I told a co worker that I like to camp alone today and she looked at me like I was from Neptune, just couldn't understand it. Some people are just not cut out for it. Sometimes it's great to not speak for days at a time.
