What a fun trip! I'll be keeping up with your blog. We're actually headed out to Ohio, from California, starting this Saturday. We'll be starting at a business trade show and will then head up to Michigan to pick up our Teardrop!

We'll wave on the highway as we pass each other. Enjoy the trip out west. I grew up right over the hill from your final destination (Santa Cruz) and hope you get some time to camp or at least hike around the Redwoods! Our first trip when we're back home will be a weekend trip up to Big Basin or Big Sur.

Also, Slow is correct, gas is hovering around $4-4.50 here in California, depending on where you are in the state.

Have fun!

We will have time to do some hiking and enjoying the park after the family get together and prior to heading to Sonora and Yosemite. the trip back will not be quite so focused or hurried. we did anticipate higher gas prices in California and Nancy budgeted for that. Subaru's are not noted for great mpg to begin with and bucking head winds does not help.
Lots of reconstruction on I 80 but flow through construction zones is good, have fun on your trip.

Trip West up date 6/14

So the good thing or the bad thing depending on your point of view, about the koa outside of Reno is it is right next to cabelas. And by the way it is not really in Reno. It is about 10 miles west. Have fun. Maybe we will see you along the way.

Trip West up date 6/14

Watch the freeway construction thru Reno. Pretty tight in a few areas downtown. Good luck in Nebraska. I remember it as the flat state that never ends.

If you come thru Merced/Atwater on the way to Sonora gas is 3.83 for regular. At Arco on Bell Ave. Take the Applegate exit off 99. You prob alread know of these sites.

Too true! Just like Kansas but farther north and a higher speed limit. Just keep looking for mountains. You'll see them any day now.

We made it to Cheyenne after detouring to see Chimney Rock and running out of gas. hit a 30 mph head wind coming south and almost made it to Kimball. Took 2 hrs for AAA to get gas to us. I had filled up prior to heading out and it should have been in range with gas to spare. Nancy wrote it up with pictures  on the blog.
The trip back will be 94 through the Michigan upper peninsula and down.

I have come to the conclusion I really prefer the Michelin Harmony tires (car tires) they absorb bumps more easily and I do not have to worry about speed heat etc. Saw a horse trailer have a blow out which took the tire just behind it out as well, LOTS of smoke and flying rubber bits, he did make it off safely.

Wyoming
Cheyene mm370 between C and L the rest area has a cool bust statue of Abe Lincoln and from there its downhill into Laramie can be steep at times and curves
Laramie mm 311 313 wendys and gas close to high way. Watch winds from wind turbines to rawlins
Nothing but gas in Sinclair other than mosquitoes
Rawlings mm254 has gas and mcdonalds subway the second rawlins exits gas subway
Rocksprings mm102 Walmart
Green river mm89 winds to evanston
Little America exit 69 stuffed Penguin at the hotel front desk/resturant. The mini cafe in the main convience store is good.
Between little America and evanstan going to be several deep valleys u go through will have climbing lanes watch the wind
Evanston exit 5

Utah at Echo becareful of the split with I84 slowdown and prepare to go left. After Kimball junction its downhill and with lots of curves
Once in town I80 will merge with I15 heading North then back to I80. The Exit fir 6th south will take up 2 right lanes so stay in the third one and just past 6th south is I80 west. Just follow the signs to the airport. Once back on I80 you will take first exit redwood road go north through to North Temple (Dennys on the corner). also there is constructuon on North temple so be warned and take a left and ur there.Due to construction when leaving KOA head west and it will have a tun off to I80 about 2 miles down the road just past the Radisson

Well contrary to expected we had a tail wind through most of the day. I think one of the problems has been gas, through Nebraska it ALL has alcohol and I am willing to bet more than the 10% advertised judging by smell and performance.
Yes the bust of Lincoln at the top of the pass and the welcome center/rest stop/museum was interesting I think Nancy has a picture of it on the blog. I picked up some Shell premium (recommended for our 3L H6) and the car is Much happier mpg over 21 despite altitude and speed (70 much of the way) in contrast to 60 yesterday.

We are in Lyman tonight and headed into SLC tomorrow. Our 40th wedding anniversary, I will take her out to a nice meal, and well...

Well read your blog and looked like the Salt Lake advice was a little redundant. Have fun on your trip tomorrow. Safe travels. Happy Anniversary

I hope you had a fun anniversary day in SLC. We just got here (SLC - We really are crossing paths as we go opposite directions!) and head out early tomorrow morning to drive across Wyoming. It seems we are missing each storm by a day or two as we head towards Ohio, thankfully!

Also, good to know about the gas in Nebraska. There are some stations in California that have the 10% Ethanol, but I still get good gas mileage on their gas. Too bad the same is not true in Nebraska.

Safe travels as you continue West. Also, as you noted, there is continued construction on I-80 through Nevada and through Reno, but traffic didn't seem to be too obstructed by it.

Cheers,

-Lori
