Digging up my old thread.

Got the Camp Chef Flame Tamers. Gawd, what a difference! These things are really worth the money!

With this stove, even on low it is still just a tad hot for simmering something like a chili for hours, even with the flame tamers, but very manageable for sure. In any case, I still long for a valve that you can turn to just about the "off" position, or as low as it will go... In years of brewing, building breweries, designing propane gas systems, I have learned that "low" is mo better, even if it takes longer.

I love this stove none the less! Great quality. I am a happy camp chef camper now, but it can still improve. After all, when you can boil water on the lowest setting (albeit a function of time), that ain't low enough to gently fry and egg sunny side up on my CI. Even with the flame tamers, I was able to fully, and fairly quickly cook bacon and eggs this weekend, but I had to stay on top of the process.

I have found that an old adjustable regulator fills the ticket pretty well. I changed out the stem with the stem from the camp chief regulator.

Although this regulator in combination with the affixed gas valves on the camp chief will allow it to get VERY low, still, I long for a good zero to nothing shutoff valve such is on the trusty Coleman stoves.

I was looking at one of these in Costco the other day, and the main thing that kept me from picking one up was that it said it ran on the 1lb disposable bottles. Those things can add up quick for sure. Does anyone know if they can be run off of a larger propane tank?

•Powered by a disposable 1lb propane can or can be adapted for a bulk tank by using the bulk tank hose adapter.

The camp chef performed beautifully this weekend with the flame tamers! I didn't use the oven other than for making toast, but I cooked on the cook top most of the weekend. The left spark igniter acted up and needs some adjustment, but that's easy.

I've used mine a couple of times, bacon and scrambled eggs with the griddle. It worked great. I've cooked cinnamon rolls and biscuits and aren't tots in the oven. The even barely got to 300f with the stove off, but with the burners on, the oven shot up to 450 pretty quickly. I also found that the bottom of baked goods tends to over cook if you don't use the burners on top, but with the burners going heat seems to be more evenly applied.
