What I have done on my trailer is run it for a year on the Maine tags then when they get ready to expire I transferred it to PA.

That's what I am planning to do. The Maine plate is a great option - but it's a lot more expensive than PA. That plate cost me $32.50. Much cheaper than the title crap. But I can buy a 5 year plate here in PA for $60. So next year...

$32.50?!?! Its $10.50 for a year in Maine, unless you get a vanity plate for an extra $25, which PA doesn't even offer.

Not to be a smart A$$ but, isn't that backwards??? $10.50 ME. vs. $32.50 PA.????

I just finished my home built Teardrop camper in Pennsylvania. I called an "enhanced inspection station" and they told me exactly what I needed to bring to them. A list of parts and equipment with receipts, a certificate of weight, a brief written description of how I built it and my driver's license. They inspected the trailer and then said they'd fill out the confusing DMV forms, including taking photos of the trailer. They sent it to DMV in Harrisburg and told me it would be 2-3 weeks to get the plate and registration. In two weeks I had my plate and a new metal plate with my VIN number engraved to apply to the trailer. So, it seems it was Easy Peasy to get a plate in PA. Just my experience.

I'm still running mine on the plates I got using the MSO from HF. Nobody here in Ohio seems to care. Don't know what will happen if I ever decide to sell it though...
