Still planning/hoping to be camping around 10,000 feet latter part of July. Planning to start with the Grand Mesa Scenic and Historic Byway in Colorado. Unfortunately success/length of stay will be dependent on cell data. Thought I could cut the string for a bit but no such luck. The downside of being in business for oneself.

Been trying to find some details on coverage but most reports of bad coverage are old. I'd like to be optimistic and take that to mean that coverage has improved as I don't believe folks would just quit complaining. :)

Wondering if any first hand knowledge of cell coverage in the Grand Mesa area. Carrier doesn't matter, though Sprint would be great as I already have a 3G/3G Hotspot with Virgin.

Slight change in destination, but managed to camp at the Great Basin Nat. Park (almost 10,000 feet) near Baker NV, for a few days in our whirlwind break-in tour. Only one night in a motel when we hit 40/104 degrees in Idaho. Only one stay in commercial as it was a long/late day from near Yosemite to the Pacific Coast.

All in all it was a good trip. Some adjustments to be made before next trip, but not as many as expected.

Started a post a smallrvs.ca... an on-going effort for a while.

We spent a couple of days at Saddlebag lake at 10,000 feet, reportedly the highest lake you can drive to in the 48. Over Tioga pass out of Yosemite.

I was going to go in there but the road did not look very inviting. We ended up having to pass on Yosemite as there was no room further down towards the Valley and fire was starting to be a concern. Was a nice drive through though. We ended up camping on the Merced River that night.

Was the road as bad as it looked at the start or did it get better?

I've spent a lot of time in that area in years past, back in my more adventurous mountaineering days. GREAT area with fast access to alpine scenery. North Peak and Mount Conness are both icons. The road was always very washboarded, but passable with a passenger car.
