I just attended the St Croix Chapter Tearjerkers First Annual Flea Market Gathering and I must have showed my Teardrop 50 times just in the morning. It put a bit of a damper on my sales at the flea market but I could have sold 20 Generic Benroy's if I had wanted to go into business building them.

Spent one night at a National Park campground near Mt. Rainier, and gave several tours, doesn't help that my wife is quite friendly and smiles and waves at anyone that stops to look. One group came back and thanked us again for giving them the tour and gave me a pair of cowhide gloves! He walked up with them in one hand, a beer in the other, I was expecting the beer, thought it was a strange thank you gift but what the heck!

Last week, while returning from our second camping trip with our TD, we stopped at our hometown gas station for a refill. We attracted a few folks, including the guy gassing up his car next to us. Asked a lot of questions, including an incredulous "You all actually sleep in that thing?" I gave his wife the grand tour, let her look inside the sleeping area and the galley. Another lady had to have a look see.

Gave the guy our TD manufacturer's (TCTeardrops) business card, with---Bob and Deb, "Solitude", Steven's Point, Wi---written on the back of it. If someone turns one in, or mentions us while buying a TCTeardrop , we get a $100 check reward. Whooo Hooo! I got a bunch of them ready to hand out, I keep them in the galley.

a couple of times when I stopped for gas on the trip to and from CRA I had people ask about mine and it is far from finished and one asked to see inside. So I gotta finish it!!!!

A good pair of cow hide gloves is worth their weight in gold if you're repelling down a ravine using a barbwire line.

Well we are home after a month on the road, 9 States , and almost 7000 miles.
TOURS! We have been giving them every day for the entire month!!
Took Miss Piggy to a very large Rod Run for our final weekend out.....we gave tours almost all day.
When we were away from our tear other people we were camped with had to take over. They continued long after we went to bed and started long before we got up in the morning.
First thing we are going to do now that we are home, is to make a sandwich board with all of Miss Piggy's components printed on it, so that we can set it up while we are unavailable.
It has been fun!
Loved all the people we have met, and their positive comments..

Howdy Everyone, After the amazing response to our teardrop at the Dam Gathering I designed a two sided 6" x 4" postcard to hand out. It makes it easy for someone who is excited about TD's to have some info to take home (I keep a stash of them in the trailer and the car).

Last week was the second campout this season that was not a gathering. For five days we camped just a few hundred yards from the ocean in Mendocino California. Our campsite was right across from the showers and restrooms. Here are a couple of snaps of the camp.

Tours? Oh, my gosh! We had not even parked yet before the first one and gave about five or more each day. I was surprised how many people had never seen or heard of a Teardrop Trailer before. These little trailers are awesome icebreakers. We had a great time we each tour. Many folks who got a tour went back to their campsites, grabbed their mates and came back for a second one! It was a very gratifying yet humbling experience to be sort of an ambassador for the Teardrop way of camping. One thing for sure, you get used to making the bed first thing.

All the Best,

Dave

Early in our trip we had a couple come back with a "Thank You Bottle of Wine".
They would not stay and drink it with us, but as it turned out , we enjoyed it so much that we bought that particular brand every
time we found it. One of our new favorites :wine:

Dave, love your postcard idea! I just came back from a folk festival where "tour guide" was my middle name! Not many had seen one. I lauded this forum and started writing "tnttt.com" on 3x5 cards to hand out. On my way home, I stopped along the turnpike to get gas and the attendant asked if that "thing" was the place where my dog rode!
Last month while in upstate Michigan, an 80 year old man pulled in and said he had been coming every day for weeks in hopes of seeing one before actually buying one for himself! He stayed a long time, asking questions and taking pictures!
This is the fascination that these small trailers generate. ( We built a generic Benroy so thanks, Mike....and for everyone's help.).

I often end up giving tours at rest stops along side of most highways and freeways. Also, there's always someone watching when I pop the top up and down. At this spring's Dam Gathering, a group watched and applauded when I brought the roof down. I'm still smiling at that one. (Thanks for that!)

In the Midwest, the rangers in the national parks were going crazy over it and kept sending people over to see it. My avatar picture is courtesy of an onlooker at Yellowstone who just had to get a picture of the roof coming down so she could show it to a friend.

...It's all good.

I had a guy want info about my TD as we were going about 5 mph in a construction zone. Some lanes were closed ahead and we were traveling at a crawl side by side, sometimes his lane would be moving, sometimes mine was, he kept yelling questions as he got ahead/behind me, it was fun.

At a camp in Colorado, the camp host pulled up on his golf cart and was laughing, said he wanted a tour. I asked what was so funny, he pointed at the half-million dollar camper next to me and said, "Oh, I was just thinking about your operating costs compared to his!"

One guy stopped by to look at the TD, and kept trying to prove I did not build it. He said, "Wellll, if you built it what is the frame made from?" I told him 2" square tubing, I cut the corners in a bevel before welding, etc, etc."
He said, "Wellllll, if you really built it, how did you make the door?" And again I explained my process with a smile. He still didn't believe me. After about the fifth question and answer, I told him rather sternly to move along! I always try to be real friendly, but I had had enough of this guy !!!

Kevin
I can sympathise with you after dealing with the real "know it alls" that won't believe that Miss Piggy is not "Fiberglass" :x
And we always open with the line that "it was made from 10 cars, 4 trucks, and 2 motorcycles between 1936 - 1961".
But what the heck?........Sandi has taught me to let them believe what they want, and we will just keep moving along to our next Great teardrop experience.

When coming home from the CRA, we stopped at a other park for a night. While my wife was setting up the dog kennel, and beautifying the camp site, I have 4 tours....

Yeh, lock your doors too even when your inside. I have been told of at least one "lookie during nookie" when some one simply opened the door when the guest assumed no one was home...

I like the sign idea...wish I know a sign painter, mine would look like something off of the little rascals. Although, thinking about it, that's probably how I would have a sign painter don it :)

Teresa and I took our tiny camper for its maiden voyage this weekend to Carter Caves, a local state park. It's funny that this thread was started just a week before we went and as I read the post I thought how lucky to have people who notice what you have done. There was a part of me that hoped that maybe someone would want to stop by and ask a question or maybe even offer a comment. WELL................we arrived at the campground around 7:00 PM. Neither of us had eaten that day and we were looking forward to getting camp set up and relaxing with ham and cheese sandwich with a garden fresh tomato :) and an ice cold Diet Coke!!!! 10:00 PM and we finally sat down to eat.The first visitor met me at the door as I was getting out of my truck. Little did I know that Teresa was in need of a restroom break since about 5 that day. :? The rest of the weekend was pretty much the same. Some friends of ours at the other end of the campground informed us that our camper was the talk of the campground. On one visit, a lady asked how many could sleep in the camper. My brother in law promptly answered all of us......it's bigger on the inside than what it looks. The look on her face was priceless. :o
