AS far as the Kreg jig vs the Harbor freight jig goes. Over on the Lumberjock site the HF jig got a mighty good review and many people there like it better than the Kreg. I have not used any pocket hole method.

that is the most recent review of that jig. There are others and it does seem that most people like the quality of the hardware. but not the instructions. Anyway it should work good for the casual user.


I like loose tenons and use the Beadlock method. There are other ways to make a loose tenon.

I originally was going to build my frames and drawers using biscuit joints. After a frustrating couple of hours, I said to heck with it and bought a Kreg jig (the $40 version). I used it to do all of my cabinet work, and haven't looked back. I used 1/2" plywood for the drawers, then mounted a floating face on them. The link given for the Kreg guide is a great starting point, as it gives you dimensions to start and explains where they come from, so you can make your own.
Did I overbuild the cabinets by using pocket screws and glue-probably. Will they fail me like the stapled stuff found in most RVs?-not likely. As it looks like you are putting your cabinets in a CT, you are probably not under the same weight restrictions as many TD builders. Yes, I did cheat on some of my drawers, by using wire frame and plastic drawers from IKEA.

The pocket hole jig is the greatest tool ever. I have a Kreg and I use it constantly. My biscuit joiner hasn't been out of it's box in 2 or 3 years

I'm with you guys, a pocket jig is the way to go. It's quick and easy.

I'm using the blue-kote weather resistant kreg screws rather than the silver ones. http://www.kregtool.com/BlueKote-Weather-Resitant-PocketHole-Screws-Prodview.html . I started with the mixed box and top as I finish them off and find I use mostly 2" screws on the TD.


Like pmowers, I've used carcasses and drawer runners from IKEA primarily. We did a kitchen and I was a tad enthusiastic so I've had spares kicking around for years.

no worries, it is all getting covered in 1/4 Birch with amber shellac.
