I to use d scissor jacks for the rear of Miss Piggy @ $4.99 ea. at he u-pick yard. The ones I got were out of Toyota Trecel 96 -99 vintage.
Welded round disks on the bottoms to create more surface contact.
Also bought a cheap B&D rechargeable drill at the first Walmart we hit when we crossed the line. ($29.00) to up & down these jacks in a heartbeat.
They double as jacks if you ever have to change a tire or repack wheel bearing while on the road. Drill has also come in handy for other thing also.
Oh front jacks are just cheap tent trailer jacks I found on Ebay.

I take a tv and dvd player only on our winter shivaree. When the sun goes down and the temperature drops to teens and single digits it time to go in and those 13 hour nights get long.

I as a home builder had to continue the effort and build my very own antenna system and it works great. There are bragging rights to building your own widgets and folks are truely amazed when they see my red neck antenna.

I have been using a pair at home for the house tvs since March of 09 when didgital came on the scene.

Here is a collection of threads about the project......

Went back and found the original site I used to build mine here is a link ,its about a 45 minute project.

I agree with bobhenry. Nights are very long during winter and can get boring. I just don't think Television.

What's up with everyone having movies on USB?!?! I'm thinking we have our iPads and the kids have their kindles to watch tv if we stay in places with wifi but my experience with campground wifi has not need very good.

Tablets work well, but we often boon dock and often wifi is sketchy when we don't. What I have is a roku 2xs, ( current eq is roku 3). It can connect on wifi and it has a USB port. I have 100GB of movies on a 2.5 inch drive , so there is always something to see. If you go the tablet route, you would have to set up some way to watch shows without internet access, very doable.

tscarbroughdc wrote:Hey y'all. I'm SO happy to say that I'm in the finishing stretch of my Benroy camper!!! I couldn't have done it without a lot of good advice from here!

I have a friend that paints cars and all who is going to paint it yellow with two blue stripes down the side like the Air Tractor airplane my dad used to fly. But before that I am wondering:

1. What do you do for jacks to stabilize it when you unhook it from your truck?

2. Do you do anything to the tongue of the camper to keep someone from just driving off with it while you are asleep at night?

Thanks!

On my one camping trip with Penguino1, we used the jack stands that I used for stability when I was building it.

On security, my next door neighbor had his midget race car and trailer (it looked like a cargo trailer, no murals of the car or anything) stolen out of his driveway about 10 years ago. We don't have garages in this neighborhood, so no chance to hide that sort of thing. Someone just backed up into the driveway, hooked it up, and it was gone. Anyway, the general response throughout the neighborhood was to take one wheel off the trailer. In fact, you can tell who lived here 10 years ago by who has a trailer in the parking pad with one wheel and a jack stand. I guess that's an option in a campground, too. It only takes a few minutes.

If running a chain thru the wheel, also loop it around the axle behind the spring. Just don't forget and drive off that way!

Removing a wheel or just running the chain thru a wheel does not stop the thief who has been lurking from being prepared with a spare, jack and lug wrench.

My brother and sister in law heat with wood. For years they left their wood splitter in their driveway in a rural setting on a main two lane road; sometimes covered with a tarp, sometimes not. Within a day or so after I borrowed and returned it, someone stole it. Hooked up and drove off. I figure the person probably drove by their house frequently and had their eye on it, and when it disappeared and then showed back up, they figured the time was ripe to take it.

The $1200-1500 replacement cost would have been a hard hit for them after my SIL has been going thru some serious medical treatments, and since they heat with wood it is not an option. It does end happy though; an anonymous person (we assume a family member who read their plight on their facebook page), was a true guardian angel, and had a new and improved model delivered to their house. The delivery guy would not tell them who the donor was!

That's really not true about yours or mine. I do worry about it and have at least used used a hitch lock which I understand only keeps honest people honest. I watch where I park mine and pray for safe keeping.

How a 60" screen in the trailer? And it runs off the trailer battery.

I'm thinking there should be a new poll thread. Something like this:

A. I hate TV.
B. I don't hate TV.

But anywho, back on subject; I hate trailer jacks. Well, I don't hate 'em, I just don't use them. I think if your trailer is a bit tongue heavy, you don't need rear stabilizer jacks. I had stabilizer jacks on my Hunter-built tear and didn't use them after the first couple of outings.

I also carry a trailer lock for when we leave the trailer in the boondocks. It fits up into the hitch. You do not want to search on Youtube for information on how to defeat trailer locks though, it's a bit discouraging and you might end up hating them. Fortunately there's not a lot of thievery in my neck-o-the-woods.
