took my son and his friend sledding saturday, thanks to the warm/ rain 2 weeks ago the snow is hard and icy, great for going down fast, but impossible to stop even if you hop off the sled  as you are about to hit something or someone. in the two hours we were there we saw at least 4 kids go home crying after getting hurt. We were hoping the snow storm today would help make the hill fun again, instead the storm went south where it won't be liked by anyone. This winter has been a bust for snow, everytime we get a good amount it rains a few days later and ruins it, the goes back to bone chilling cold.
I've only been cross country skiing 7 or so times this year thanks to the lousy track record with the snow. can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait for winter to be over (because I love snow)

Winter FINALLY arrived here with much needed rains. It arrived just in time to wreck havoc with the Spring we WERE having. Most of the blossoming trees and flowers began budding in late Dec./early January and are in full bloom now, especially the rhodies and camillias, and the roses are already getting "ripe" to bloom.
Farmer's Almanac must be reeling after what they predicted for 2014.

Went camping last weekend, worked in the yard Saturday (80 deg), Drained and winterized the trailer again last night. It was 15 deg this morning... Thought I was done with winterizing.

At 8:30 am today I turned my heater off and opened the door, feels good to have the air flowing freely. Lilacs, plums and apples have buds, tulips and other bulb flowers are pushing up. Be mowing lawn in a few weeks, Or at least lawn may be needing mowing.

Slo, I imagine most Wyoming winters are hard, but this one sounds like it is off the charts. Do you have enough firewood to last through the next few months or do have some other type of heating?

Similar to Austin -- 70 degrees or so at sunrise on Sunday; down in the 40s immediately after the front blew in a bit later in the morning; low in the low 20s last night. Sleet/ice forecast after midnight tonight and into the morning on Tuesday. But, for us, we just wait a few days and there will be some lovely warm weather (60s and 70s by the end of the week).

I know it has to be so hard for those who are getting battered by storm after storm after storm this winter.

Looks like the area in Calif. having desperate drought got at least some rain.

November is here. We're in a flood warning--I just measured 2" of rain in my 5 gallon bucket rain gauge. That's in 20 hours. It was a rain on snow event in the higher elevations. The local creek is roaring. I'll mosey down and take a look pretty soon.

50 degrees and raining here when I woke up. I hear some place back east is worried they will not be able to die their river green for St Patty's day cause it may still be frozen over. I am glad I do no live there. I have enough problem with cabin fever.

We are excited to get above zero two days in a row, although we had blizzard warning all over the place with high winds. Being the eternally optimist, I had order seeds and they came in the mail.. so I hope the ground thaws soon.

This is the first year we have been told to keep a trickle of water running because the frost is over 6' in ground and water supply pipes are freezing. The worst is if your septic tank freezes. Not pleasant in this kind of cold.

We are still below zero most nights, although most days we have had good sun. We are far enough north that earlier winter, it is so weak, it does not do much. So sunny and temps in the teens to 20 feels pretty wonderful.

We have had a great stretch of the snowmobile trails being excellent for bike riding. It is phenomenal right now. :D

Yes it will. Today on the California Central Coast it warmed up to 67F. The low at night was 53F. We finally got a little rain. The season rainfall total is now up to 6.5", which is about 1/3 of normal. We're beginning to get some green in the coastal hills.
