You don't seem to understand.... When you log in even as a guest, you leave a MAC address (media access code) in the "routers access table" file.... Any IT person worth his paycheck can visit file and find out when you are on line and hours spent online....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MAC_address

IF you have router on personal system, sign into its dashboard and explore,... And find your MAC address and other stuff.... the insight you gain will suprise you....

Also we experienced access to local motel with Wifi, and after 1 hour of free use, we were cut off.... It would seem that if you are not a registered guest and do not have the passcode for particular wifi access point you are denied access.... In the end the motel was gracious enough to issue a passcode for us because we were doing public service function near motel grounds...

This very problem is the reason I seldom visit this forum any longer. It is very frustrating trying to participate in a discussion when you are constantly being logged off, this happens almost anytime I try to reply and at times from one discussion to another.

Length of time logged in, seem to be a varied subject... I have automatic loggin each and every time I come onto the site, and I can leave system and come back some time later and still be logged in..... Would seem to me that the site may not be issue but maybe how your ISP handles traffic and maybe your browsers setting.....

One question I will ask, is what browser are you using to access site.... Personally I use Firefox (primary) and Google CHROME (second choice) .... From past experience if you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer, you should run from that application as fast as you can....

Browsers other than Internet Explorer...

Apple Safari
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Opera....

As webmaster of several past and existing websites, IE is biggest headache to get sites to display correctly and keep connected....

FWIW, I have no problem with staying logged in here or at a couple of other forums I frequent. I too utilize the keep me logged in feature on my laptop and very seldom do I have to log in. Then it is usually after I have done some housekeeping.

We use Firefox almost exclusively. My experience has been that there are a few websites that Firefox does not display properly. Those display fine on MSIE for me. And MSIE also remembers the log ins as well as Firefox. ISP = CenturyLink DSL. Chrome is another alternate for me, but FF is the main browser we use.

Slow I work noght audit in a hotel, typically between 1 and 3 a.m. or so everyone is in bed and I have my checklist done so my job is to just make sure things stay quiet. I do lots of extras at work so they allow me to bring my personal laptop to work as long as I keep my eyes on the guests and hotel first. I usually am only on for an hour or so.

Do you check the box labeled "Log me on automatically each visit" when you log into the site?

If you do check the box it should log you in and keep you logged in indefinitely. Even if your ip address changes, mac address changes, you route through a proxy, a total solar eclipse or zombie apocalypse... that computer should stay logged in. Downside? If you use a shared computer your computer mate can post as you on the site, remember to log out when you're done if that is an issue.

If you do not check that box your session will expire. Session length is controlled by a setting in the admin control panel. ACP > General > Load settings > Session length (in seconds). IIRC, the default is 900 seconds or 15 minutes.

If everything is working correctly you will stay logged in as long as you interact with the system in less than 15 minutes. Just reading or scrolling up/down the page doesn't count. You have to click a site link in less than 15 minutes from the last interaction or it will log you out.

The site admin can increase or decrease the session length. This setting effects other things on the site so there are reasons not to set it too high. A setting too low can be a frustration too.

It is my personal laptop that I use at home and bring to work for downtime surfing, and yes I always use the always log me in. But I am not going to worry about it. I was just wondering if there was an easy fix or not. Since it all works fine at home I will find other things to look at when I am at work.

I have the same problem. I get logged out within 60 seconds always, not sometimes. Always.
My issue started when I moved to my new ISP which is a satellite internet provider before blaming satellite, Just to clarify...

I clicked the log me in each time I visit button
I cleared the cookies
I "Reset" my browser
I tried different web browsers (Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome)
I reset my IP address
I made sure my time zone was correct (HINT, as a web master, this is a common source of issues, check the time zone on your computer as well as within this website to be sure that are correct and match)
I visit other PHP based web forums with no issue (Including my own)
I do NOT get this issue on my work computer (I work from home using the same connection)

Mike, maybe this topic needs to be relocated to the site issues? It sucks for me and I don't know what to do but it definitely discourages me from posting more.

This only thing that I have noticed that reduces my frustration is that instead of hitting "Preview", if you hit "Save" it will go through more often. and then you won't have lost your whole post..

Clearly none of my business but... Possibly a conflict with the cookie domain configuration in phpBB. The cookie domain should be .url.com or in this case .tnttt.com with a leading dot and no http:// or trailing slash.
