Don't like the idea of liquids in the teardrop.
We simply put a microfiber towel on the fender and place any drink there.
A couple weeks ago someone ;) left a water bottle in the teardrop while traveling and my pillow got soaked .
The cap was cross threaded and leaked drip by drip.
Fortunately it was a hot California fall day and we just left the windows open while traveling and the bedding was dry for the night.
Let the pillow dry in the tow vehicle.

Drink holder - a solution

Postby noseoil » Sun Oct 26, 2014 8:52 am

Didn't mean to start a war on this one, but appreciate the input from people. I've narrowed it down to these 2 after thinking a bit more about it. I like the idea of folding up flat and being out of the way when not in use. At this point I'm not going to ask where they should be located (too early for that lively a discussion). Here are the two finalists. Thinking most likely a black plastic adjustable one, but stainless steel would be nice as well......

Use whatever one matches your décor; I bought the black plastic type from E-trailer, and it folds up unobtrusively, and matches the black trim I mounted it on.

The SS holders are usually a marine item. Amazon & the marine suppliers have them for boats, but they cost 4X more than a plastic ones do now. Decisions, decisions, decisions.....

Hey Nose-oil,
I use the Stainless steel ones in our builds (I've got a couple close up pictures of them installed on the website). I really like them (in terms o of looks and durability compared to the plastic ones) and they were one of those things that my wife and I always wished we had in our first build but didn't... we each had a small Nalgene bottle jammed next to the mattress or pillow at night. We never had a leak like Danny, but always wished for a bottle holder.
Good thinking to work through these as best as possible in the beginning...you can't plan for everything (things Will change), but knowing what you want will at least give you a shot at getting them in the right place.
Best,
Dennis

Dennis, thanks for your input. I checked the pictures & I'm sold, they look really nice. Your builds are incredibly well done, the design, execution & attention to detail are outstanding. Really like the edge banding & door gaps, super clean look & very durable as well. Best of luck in your business, but it looks like it isn't luck. tim

the stainless ones are nice but you can paint the plastic ones to match interior colours. I placed them high enough so when I roll over I do not hit them.

Thanks Noseoil. I appreciate the compliment!
Believe it or not, I haven't found a better price on the SS version than Amazon even from my wholesale distributor, so that may be your best bet. Let me know if you find a better source!
These are the ones I have used... http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0097YH972/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I put mine up high enough to keep from knocking the drink out of it or breaking it when it was open when I move around at night. As others have said, I put a bottle of water in it at night so I don't have to get out for a drink if I get thirsty and it does work well for brushing your teeth in the morning since it is not cold at that point. Plus it works for other things as well like phones, flashlights, MP3 players, eye glasses, etc.

These could work well too. Just mount the bracket on the wall and the Drink holder can be removed if needed. Large enough to hold a drink inside a Coozie or a standard coffee mug.

I went with the White ABS Cup Holder for my Teardrop to match the wall color. They work great and have a low profile when folded up.

So I've been pondering this same issue - place to securely place a beverage at night. Being a tinkerer nothing online fit my needs, so I decided to build my own.

I have these perfect little holes to hang something from without putting more holes in the trailer so that was the mounting criteria.
Image

Wandering the plumbing parts at the hardware store I spy these guys - drain pipe adapters and peg hooks - PERFECT!
Image

Cut a couple grooves in the bottom, place it on the arms, hang it from the holes - oooops - the peg legs aren't long enough - darn! Time to stare at the workbench and sure enough - look at those crimp connectors with the shrink tube ends - PERFECT!
Image
Image

Next up, cut the slots for the pegs - PERFECT!
Image

Except the weight of a waterbottle makes it sag because the heat shrink won't cut it...
Image

No problem - stare at the bench some more, spy the extra tool hangers - perfect width, the welder has wire - PERFECT!
Image
No, I'm not a certified welder...
Image

Wa La! No-Drill cup holders! Easy peasy lemon squeezy!!!
Image

Note maximum lean angle on "typical" beverage: PERFECT!

Hope you enjoyed that as much as I did writing it!

Bought two folding cup holders from West Marine when they were on sale.

Works great to hold a cup, my small flashlight or anything that would would fit on a little ledge.
