As a general rule of thumb , if it’s too windy to go sailing , it’s likely too windy to take the trailer out … If you find yourself in too Strong a wind , just find a tall building to park on the downwind side of …( the other side of the Wal mart … )

And remember the shape of the trailer also has a bearing on how crosswind resistant it is … The FS is very tall , yet has survived some rather strong storms and being passed by semi’s flying by on the interstate … Still we wouldn’t intentionally take it out in really Bad ( windy ) weather …
On our Foamies , the upper cabin structure is so light compared to trailer weight , we have a built in CG advantage …. That and the 500 lbs. of Beer we carry as “ballast" …

The spreadsheet is in the Design Library, but the link to the DL is wrong - tries to go to the old angib site.

About halfway down the page is a section named Design Tools ... there is a link there to the original html page on trailer balancing. That page is on the web archive, but it has a link to download the spreadsheet. I modified my copy of it to add up to 10 different 'extra' items so I could be more accurate. Some of the things I added there were battery, water jugs, cooler, AC unit, tongue box (tools, jack, wheel chocks, water heater, etc). I even added the cabinets in the front of the trailer, estimating the weight of the cabinets and their contents.

The more analysis I give it, the more I think that I'll probably be OK.

I plan to stay close to home. The pics of the toppled trailer that you guys posted appeared to be of a foamy somewhere on the plains.

We don't have those 'round these parts...lol. What you see in the Jeep pic is the terrain around here.

Consequently, going back two weeks, the high wind here was 10, even with temp swings of 15-20 degrees between day and night. mph.

But, I'll either take it easy or park it when the wind kicks up. Actually, I don't know if I can take it any easier. My wife already complains that I drive like an old man.

My camper is not going to be as high as the toppled camper in the pic, I don't believe. It's also a bit wider and I'm sure heavier as well.

Everything in the camper is going to be removable. Water tanks, propane tanks, stoves, coolers, window air units, etc. All of it will be on the floor during transport.

Have you thought about using 2" foam for the roof ?

Yes.

Because of the side overhangs, the span from side to side will be about 6'6".

I worry about a heavy snowfall collapsing the roof. I do plan to use it in winter, and even when I'm not camping, it will be stored outside.
