How To Carry a Bicycle?

A mount on the front of the pickup would be really good. Easy to get the bike on and off without disturbing the rest of the equipment. I'll need to look into that idea. Thanks.

If you have room for side rails on your truck bed, you can fit roof racks across them and then do the fork mount thing on the racks. That was my plan before I got a truck cap instead of the tonneau cover.

I had a weak tongue in my mind as well. I've since replaced it with a piece of 2-1/2" square tubing, and lengthened it by 22 inches. The length was done to make handling easier. it also gave me the ability to mount my spare someplace rather than tossing it in the TV. I had a cheap bike carrier and mounted a bolt on receiver on the top side of the tongue. I haven't done it yet, but plan to reverse the direction of the carrying hooks, so a bike can be next to the box.

Bikes do have alot of wind resistance. Having mine pointed forward on the roof rack with the fork mounts. I do feel em a bit.
If they can be behind the vehicle that would help.

I've seen some mtn bikers have a mat over the tailgate and have the bikes hang over.
Might be an option for those with trucks.

If the hitch extender is used, I heard the towing weight capacity is reduced by half? Is this correct?

The capacity of the hitch / receiver (on the tow vehicle) is reduced by 50% if you use a hitch extender. That is a general statement and the percentage would depend on the length of the extender. Some of those double extenders state that they reduce capacity, others do not, but they certainly do and that fact is based on the leverage principle. I have one, used it once, didn't like it.
