Ours was designed for using tent sites when necessary or desirable. As an example the best sites at Agawa Bay, Lake Superior Provincial Park on the beach are tent sites and we have spent up to seven days, the solar panel feeds all of our needs, refrigerator, lights XM radio chargers etc.

I'll give a good reason for a tent site, quiet. I have been close enough to RVs that run AC all night with all their Windows closed. Some run a generator ignoring rules. That sucks and is super annoying.

I have camped my TD in tent sites and also been refused from tent sites. It depends on the campground. Even within the OR state parks system, it is a campground by campground decision. So you have to call and talk to someone in order to know.

The same applies in commercial campgrounds - you gotta put the question to them in order to know.

It isn't even always a matter of their setup. Yes, some tent sites are physically blocked between the driveway and the tent pad and just no room. Others the tent sites are from all appearances just like an RV spot but without hookups, and it is simply a matter of rule/policy which may be thoughtful or capricious. You can't fight City Hall.

You could always bring your old tent. That is what we did/do. I'll use the tent if there is a problem we can't solve. Keeps it legal. The tent is small when stuffed, we can pull out our mattress for the tent and all our 'stuff' is just what we used when we car tent camped.

swoody126 wrote:IMHO the designations of "tent" and "RV" sites has more to do with amenities than who/what should be alowed to occupy particular spaces

IIRC tent sites typically only have water and electricity at the most

while RV sites will also be supplied w/ a sewer dump

when using state and other private and government campgrounds i feel folks should look to and occupy the site offering no more than needed

TD and TTT campers typically utilize the public faciities which are commonly located more conveniently to the tent areas

in addition TD & TTT campers typically live outdoors like tenters rather than hole'd up in their motorized tin/fiberglass boxes

i personally vote for a tent site w/ water and electricity when available and even if the amenities aren't available for most of the units found on these pages

just this old man's 2¢ worth on the subject

I agree, I wull usually pick a tent site if it has electricity over an RV site for the reasons stated above. ( also usually cheaper)
