You need to start a build thread if you have not already. Would really like to see this trailer being built.

From Mrs. Starleen2

Thanks rrawlings for the go ahead on your build. I hope this keeps my husband occupied by reading your posts that he will not be compelled to build another camper for at least another year. :worship: Please get stated soon ;)

Mrs. Starleen,
My wife deep down I think wishes I had never found this site. As soon as I have pictures of parts being milled and all of the parts back from the cabinet shop I will start a build thread.

rrawalings,

You'll have to custom fit those fold down triangle in the rear, to close up the hole in the back wall.

I'll take a picture of my model to show you what I mean.

I figure the back end will require a lot of custom fitting. I have decided to make it wider than originally planned and turn a queen crossways to give us nearly 2 ft extra floorspace.this build is really starting to be close enough to taste. I have someone arranged through some trading that will build up my frame. I weld but not enough to call myself good.

Here's the picture of the back end. Pointing to the hole I was talking about... You'll just need to make your triangle taller! ;)

Rrawlings,

Who are you working with for the CNC, the Shopbot guy out in Magna? If your wife wants to get a feel for the size of the space, you're welcome to bring her by to see my trailer. It isn't as big, but it might help her see that what she's getting into.

I'll guess about 200" from the front of the bed to the back wall.

My landlord at my day job is a cabinet door company that has 2 CNC mills. They happen to be right across the street from my office, so I can sneak out when they have questions about the pieces and whatnot. I got bumped from the schedule today and they wok 4 10's so I am off till mid next week. They also have stock on hand of poplar and will mill to order my pieces be they 3/4 by 1 1/2 or whatever, I just give them a list and they do it. Great friends to have.

With a heavy heart I bring the news that my build will be postponed a few months. I have had some unexpected big automotive expenses, need to replace a car totaled by my son. Teenagers, can't live with them and it's illegal to kill them. I guess we keep him and wait for the teen yrs to mass.

finally

It looks like this week I may be able to pickup tubing and get the frame under way. We have the car about done for the kid. The build may change a little bit though. in that we will be towing with a higher profile vehicle we are going to build this profile but in the up position. The lid portion will probably still get to be a raised part on the sides just for character, that much foam won't make any real difference in weight. The fingers are crossed.

Found the Alto trailer patent. Maybe helpful for someone looking to build something similar.

Did anyone ever actually build this? This is so what I want, but as a bunkhouse.

I just love teardrops, the way they look, the way they tow, the galley. But I have a family of 12. And a van by the time you load up only have about 3000 lbs towing cap--and even less if it has drag.

Foamie hybrid to keep the weight down (more beer and water). Integrated tongue box to stiffen the hinge wall and hold the gennie. Small galley in the back. AC in the side (protected by sides in the down position so no travel hatch needed). Triple high bunks on front wall and road side as an L. Queen raised in rear with kid bunks underneath. Baby bunks above the queen. Small galley in back (more of a rear storage hatch with fold-down hatch/worksurface). Portapotty and outdoor shower (maybe a way to rig an indoor shower in emergencies). I think I can make it all fit.

Go for it R_W. Mike and I played with this design in cad but for me the killer was the full length hatch weight. My current WW has a 6' hatch that is a 80 lb press to raise. You will definitely need some assist to raise the hatch. Looking forward to what you come up with.

Gary
Where ever we raise the hatch is home.
Darn blank states keep getting further away and we keep traveling slower ain't never gona get this map full.
