It's time for a new Generic Standy Design...

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

Postby GPW » Wed Jul 04, 2007 7:06 am

Guys , I do alot of airplane designs... www.FoamFly.com/gallery/Glen ...so I sorta' know how things fit together... We've been using the same blue foam you guys for insulation to make electric powered planes...
Hurricane evacuation has ,however, made us all think in different terms.... It was absolutely a great relief to discover these small trailers and this forum... It's a great alternative to living in someone elses' house for a month ...or more.... (sooner or later , I always rub somebody the wrong way) ...and another escape house elsewhere(summer home ???) was financially outta' the question.
Tiny travel trailers are just so cool , and with the right equipment , one should be able to survive indefinitely... Our big bugout was equipped for most anything we'd need around here, including solar panels , so we wouldn't have to scramble for fuel ,along with everyone else...It was a good idea at the time , and cute as a Bug ... a BIG Bug, but since it had no bathroom , the household "Domina" declared the need for "something better"...hence her purchase... out voted again ...
This trailer building , however, has now become an addiction ... design possibilities are endless and the challenging arrangement of living spaces continues to fascinate me... I'm already working on the Airliner, which is already sold (didn't do it for that reason) and it's proving alot of ideas that were once mere drawings... if you permit , I'll be glad to share my ideas, and continue to enjoy the "snappy patter" of the "characters" that post here... Thanks to all !!!! .... and this pastime keeps me outta' those bars that are devoted to the noble peaks of baby beverage... :R

Mike , thanks for your understanding!!!!
I wracked my little brain over the hoilday trying to think of a simple way of garaging these TTT's .... may be easier to build a simple shed/roof to house them , rather than complicate/compromise a good simple trailer design ...We added a roof to our garden shed to house the big bugout and it made all the difference in protection ...Easy and cheap too ...4"x4" PT posts , 2"x 6" PT rafters ... R panel roof ... Only took a day to build ...EASY ...

GPW,

The ET is now has a 69" sidewall, and from the ground to the trailer is about another 11". Plus the channel is 3". So from the grount to the top of the trailer is now 83". that does not fit in my garage. It probably doesn't fit in most 7' garages either (the door is in the way).

But like you said, rather than compromise a good design, I'll run with it, and plan on having a sunbrella cover made for it.

for those who want a garagable design will have to build something different, like the "Something Simple". I've made the "Something Simple" a bit more complex, but then, that's me!!!

Is there and air bag that fits the bill supported weight wise?

You could make the trailer "squat" to fit in a garage by lowering the pressure in the bags.

Mike,

Why 3 inch channel, if you used L shaped instead of tube, you would lose almost all of the 3 inches.

For storage and maybe building you could build a set of wheel dollies for the trailer andtake off the regular wheels and have it sit on the dollies instead, you might gain a few incheds depending on how deep your step-down box is.

Rick,

I'm building on the 5x10 Red trailer. It uses 3" channel.

Sitting around, decided to make a new drawing further reflecting some ideas about a TTT standy ...One of the ideas was to use a commercial shower stall ... just about the right height , CHEAP and roomy enough for a toilet and sprayer shower pump to easily sit inside... that and the kitchen wall thing , previously discussed... extra floor space would be good for a couple comfy folding chairs for inclement weather... that and a reading light ... The whole things fits in a 6'x12' interior...Not too big , certainly not tiny...could be easily built on a boat trailer..6'6" height should accomidate most ...sorry , will probably not fit in most garages...
Tough posting here .... scans always too big ...???

resize your scans to 640x480 and you won't have any problem posting it here.
