I think I like the idea of the bags stuffed in the rounded front fiberglass section. I have seen a lot of condensation in that area a while back. The furnace does well in keeping moisture down. I am just going to stick with Styrofoam on the ceiling. Later I will install luan on top of that as a finished ceiling.

Just had a tooth pulled today Good night.

Hey Russ, hows the tooth doing? Russ I have been cleaning out my small shop and ran across some of the books and other junk I drag home. I work at a retirement place and at one time I got to be friends with a guy that made the plans for the tracks. Guess he worked all over the US. Anyhow he gave me a few of his books he used to do his job. But in these I just found an old map of the tracks here in Ohio. I brought it in to show Janny and now she has put it some where? But I think it is from 1918 or something like that. Very old and it is on what they call oil-canves ? I brought it in the house thinking of you. As soon as I find it I will let you know for sure the date on it. But for being 100 years old it is in pretty good shape. I did look at it, It shows the edge of Ohio on your side, but doesn't go into the other state very far. If you email me I can send you a few pictures of it. Hope that tooth is better. :D

Missing tooth still hurting but less then B4 Thanks for asking.

That would be great. I only collect copies anyway. All photographs I hope it is of the Wheeling & Lake Erie line showing how they were to get into West Virginia. The South Penn was doing the survey down in that area but diverted once they saw no friendly railroad to connect with to get across the river. Eventually the W&LE did cross but not until the South Penn died. I have a small map of their approach into Wheeling just through Middle Wheeling Creek to reach Fulton.

Some of the actual South Penn maps are still out in the general public's hands/homes as from what I see some were given to them. I had one lady send me a copy by e-mail asking what I thought she could sell it for. Another I found just last year in a county records archive.

I tell people to not get rid of them. However as said I just like to get copies to study them.

Oh I did the study down that valley from Connellsville via Brownsville to Wheeling but when I got to the River I just felt I better just stop as I still had more things in my own back yard to fill in.

Thanks.

Here is what I found yesterday. The temps outside were 21 degrees and I left everything shut off (Electric & Furnace) and went out from about 12:30 -4:30 and when I returned the temps dropped to 35 degrees. So this tells me that I can save on fuel for at least four hours without having my goods go bad (freeze).

So far doing good inside my un insulated trailer. But that is with the temps at the average of 13 the lowest so far.

I think at least this January we are not as bad as last year as I recall going to coops at the end of January last year and that two weeks was sub temps. I recall every time the door was open steam like what comes from our moths would just fill up near the door.

I still recall that great time we had. Memories! :)

Well the weather has remained the same for the past couple of days. I recall last year in the sub 0's and this year about 19-25 so It looks as if it won't be that bad after all. I have managed so far to up the tanks to 4 days instead of three. This is done by just staying off them during the day and only set it at the min at night. Also using the electric mattress pads during the day. Feel a draft behind me as I lay on the bed but the blankets get rid of that as I pack them behind me.

Looking forward to getting the trailer ripped apart to insulate it for next year. Hey I am doing alright. So Yes it can be done. It is a great help being at the sons in laws driveway. but that will be over as of next Friday.

So I didn't have the furnace on last night but at about 5 am I woke up cold. Not 32 or anything like that just cold. Temps have not reached below 13 yet this year. Are we in for a break this year?

Sleeping without turning the furnace on? That saves fuel. If you get cold, you can always reach over and turn the furnace back on.

You're past the half-way mark for winter; but, sometimes the coldest weather can come in February. Only Mother Nature knows. At least the daylight hours are beginning to expand.

Thanks All for caring.

It is good to know that others are interested.

Yeah that's what I thought as well. I recall last year at the teardrop outing with Coop in north central Pa. that it was freezing so bad that the air exiting the kitchen looked like smoke in a scene of a house on fire but it was heat getting out the door every time the door was opened. Never saw anything like it before.

I feel lie it might be a bit cold this weekend but still I will live through it. Furnace runs real well.

Looking forward to insulating the trailer anyway for summer as well as next winter.

Something else I learned is that II need to go to the library to up load tons of photos so as not to use up all my air card megabytes. I am at a restaurant right now. Otherwise the library as not today as it is the Kings birthday. Pay for breakfast and get internet free.

I was wondering if that extreme cold hit your area yet. I know you were doing minimal posting because of maxing out your card.

I might not comment much, but am watching the thread to see how you are doing!!

Oh, and loved the picts and history of the RR.

Russ,

You confused me a bit.
You're using the gas furnace at night, and the electric heat pads in the day.

Why not an electric space heater if/while you have power?

Rob

Thanks all

I am using the electric all day and night. But when it gets cold like this morning even with the electric mattress pads and electric heater on it still got cold. I had to turn on the furnace.

Propane is like gold to me. During the day after Thursday, I will be using the gen anyway during the day for the laptop and convection oven and charging the batteries as I will be off the house grid. So the furnace will be a must running off the battery at night. I will also be on the battery mattress pad at night that has a timer so won't use that all night. This is where the real winter kicks in as being totally off the grid. In one way I hope for the weather to get really down to the bottom just to see how I make it. Again most of the time I will be with the trailer watching conditions. Right now and as it has been I have had it easy as I had the electric heater on all the time when I am out as well as in. The furnace only when it gets chilly and the electric can't keep up. I have the electric also on during the day while the gen is running.

The trade off from the blue flame which use to last a whole week on a 4.5 gallon tank use to dump water in side the trailer. The gas furnace uses one 4.5 gallons in very conserve mode a tank is used in 3 days.
