If you send me a paycheck every week, I'll start designing tiny houses! :D

Mike , you could make a Fortune down here.... everybody wants either a tiny house , or a tiny house on wheels ...or both ... not really a bad idea...after what we went through , and are STILL going through two years later... might want to check out the Brits too ... they'll be needing something when the waters recede..and the Texans ... This could be a new career opportunity ...Schmaybe ' !!!???

Don't stop this thread yet :( . I really like the designs. They really have been inspiring me. I'm thinking of a crossways bed in the front or back. My wifes short, so i can slip out around her. One thing to think about with a shower is two water tanks, one for supply and one for grey water. They could be used to balance out the weight .

Mike , the housing shortage here is STILL critical ... a GETS would solve alot of problems...something slightly bigger would be livable..you really should contact Brad and Angelina, they live here now , They might pay you lots of $$$$$ who knows??/worth a shot !!! You're the guy here who can do it !!!

Still collecting ideas for the most efficient/comfortable "Ham" we can build ... something to live in for awhile... Over time , Simple seems to be better...

The most comfortable efficient ham is going to be the one that gives you ALL the features you are looking for, or not looking for depending on the level of simplicity you want.

And regarding the tiny houses, if I thought I could come up with a design that would fit two comfortably, I would draw it up for you. But alas, I think a tiny house would be quite a bit bigger than a tiny trailer.

Mike...

P.S. Check out the park model in this thread...

Hey, I like that design, only I'd put the sink and shower on the opposite side.

Os, almost depends on how much "cast iron" you're hauling .... hahahaha  NICE Cabs!!!

Mike , it doesn't have to be as small as a TTT... just as efficient as one ... that's the rub...
no wheels needed...??? a nice TD shaped house would have a nice "hobbit" look to it , a nice change from the boxy C**p that architects design endlessly...just like we build a trailer , you could do a house... metal roof , window boxes...??? ...

Please Revive Me

Postby jml79 » Sun Sep 07, 2008 2:51 pm

I have just found this thread and thought i might try a revival. Some one asked about campers chiming in. I have many years of living in tents and trailers. Instead of buying a summer property, my family of modest means has camped seasonally (from may 15 to Oct 15) for 3 generations in southern Ontario. When I was young we had a utility trailer with a box built on either side and a gap running down the middle between them. The boxes contained 2 propane stoves on sliders, a spot to put the water jugs and storage for the food and dishes. We slept in tents on old folding cots (this was the days of heavy canvas tents) and erected a giant tarp over the trailer. We had a community water tap and carried all of our water and used an outhouse and the river as a bath. When I was about eight my grandparents bought a Combi-Camp trailer. Which is nothing more than a raised tent. We kept all of the cooking stuff in a dining tent all season. Finally when I was 12 my grandparents bought a 22' hard sided trailer with a bathroom. I lived with them at camp until I was 19. Always living in a tent. I can not remember ever using the kitchen inside for cooking. In fact we use it so seldom that it has rubbermaid boxes on it for additional storage. The same with the dinette. It is only used for storage unless we have guests who don't have a tent. Then it was folded as an extra bed. However the shower and the bathroom are really nice. Outside cooking always (even in the rain and once in the snow) and storage, storage, storage. One of the best features of my GP's trailer was full width hammocks that hang over the dinette and bed. 2 aluminium poles with canvas in between. Instant and light extra storage. A good sized fridge is helpful for living in your trailer but really little else is needed than a place to sleep, a bathroom and definitely an outside kitchen. all i have ever used inside is a one burner stove on the corner of the counter heating coffee and maybe making KD. Love the design ideas and if you have any questions fire away, I have camped and live in trailer and the woods for so long that I am sure I have tips and stuff but don't know what others don't know. ie what I know for granted. By the way, I just got back from visiting them. They still have that same trailer and still live in it 5 months of the year.

I second the motion to keep this thread alive...it REALLY should be stickied or a section should be created for standies....just my humble opinion, which I know isn't worth squat! LOL....Anyway, I am REALLY liking some of these designs. I like the one with the door at the rear with the two beds up the sides and the crapper in the back corner, If you move the door over to the side a bit, you could enclose the potti area. I just got the check from selling my house so its time to crack my knuckles and get started! Woohoo! I can't believe the time has finally come! First things first of course.... I need a trailer....

I could've sworn I saw some computer/CGI drawings of of standie that had a little laptop sitting on there and you could even see the WindowsXP desktop on it. A really good design....I cant find it now. Argh, cuz thats' the design I'd like to go with pretty much...

Okay let's revive this thread, and compare notes with another standie thread I started.

I'll make this thread a sticky though...

HERE IT IS! I like this design, whose is this? I would like permission before I co-opt a design. I would round it off up front though...and it wouldn't be the exact design of course, the beds would be part of a table bed.

THERE it is. I would put a round front/top edge instead of a flat piece. I would move the door over to the side a little to be able to enclose the potti.....should I round the top/rear edge for better aerodynamics? I'll have to think about that. Hmmmm.....got the wheels turning...
