Okay Steve
I think I have figured you out?? Your secret is out!
You have crossing issues!
You can't go west becuase you can't cross the Bridge.......or South because you can't cross the Border..... and East because you can't cross the Mountains!!!
So it looks like we will have to meet some place North of you if we are to plan a camping outing together!
Get your strength back man, because camping season is here, and I need somebody to run back and for to the cooler for me! :R

Got some pics today.... actual construction on my ProLite Suite has started.

http://www.smallrvs.ca/blog/index.html

I guess it's kinda cheating with reference to the topic as I'm not the actual builder but I figure it somewhat qualifies as I'm sure I'll be modding it some later. First on the agenda is setting up RF brake controller and 4->7 pin conversion on tow vehicle.

The Shrunk-Bunk, continues to be a challenge, since the lower 24 inch by 24 inch door can not be secured due to the minimal clearance between the upper and lower sidewalls. Therefore, I have installed 2 rare-earth magnets to hold it in place while the upper section is being lowered to the travel configuration. Also, the HF fender is in the way of getting the door open, when in camping-mode. So, I cut the fender in half and hinged the front section up and out of the way, to allow the door to open after the road trip is over.

Barrel bolts seem to work fine, holding the two units solidly in place while on the road and also after set up for camping. If the bolts fail, I guess the upper section will act like a sail and fly off into never-land on the freeway. However, additional hold-down devices are planned, but not quite designed yet. Also, the standard piano hinge isn't husky enough to hold up the weight of the, front, over the tongue, 30 inch swing-out section needed for my feet, so I'll have to install mortised 4x4 door hinges to carry the weight.......what next? Shasta, here I come, hopefully all in one piece.

Hi Roly
I was going to suggest some nice weld on hinges! :? And then it hit me...."What was I thinking?" it is hard to weld to wood!!!
If you do get aground you will be in need of a fire extiguisher in a hurry.
Keep up the good work......we know you will make Shasta.

Brian
PS
The weld on ones would be perfect for the fenders as they slide apart. So the portion of the fender that is in the way could be made to be removed with a simple pull of a pin. Have a great picture in my head, wish I were there to help you!

Framed in place the hatch ribs with glue and pocket screws. Still need cross blocking, light blocking, and 1/8 skin.

Yesterday, but put the fenders on, hooked up the trailer lights, installed the hatch handle and latches. Then took it for a spin up the interstate at 65+. It rolled along quite nicely and relieved my worry about how it would tow. Next weekend will be trim installation, counter top, drawer faces and dome light install and that is about it. Then she is ready to camp, well once I buy a battery that is. :D

Installed new rubber weather stripping on the rear doors. Hoping that will solve my water seepage problem. :NC

Well Brian, welding the 4x4 door hinge, would have been an easy way to attach it to the "metal" HF fenders, which I decided to use on this one. However, the 1/4 inch bolts took a little longer, but seem to work just fine. Hey, I finally got the spackle and sanding done on the upper section and started the next step........Painting. I try to keep it simple, first coat, is water-based Kilz, then a couple of coats of house paint. Big decision, what color to use???? Been thinking white roof, blue sides and red rounded front and rear ends. Maybe that would make it look too patriotic and noticeable on the road, so perhaps a camo paint scheme would blend it in better to the interstate traffic. Trying to match the metalic red on my new Chevy Cruze, would be to shiny and expensive and would probably show all of the imperfections in my woodwork. Hmmm, been thinking about a swirling Motor-Home style paint job, to make it look more expensive, instead of the 400 bucks I have already spent. I weighed it today, and it came in lighter than expected, only 280 lbs for a complete camping unit......hurrah. I really think it will be easier to pull on the road than the higher, 245 lb 6 ft Stacker. 38 mpg, expected, Woo Hoo. This 5 week build has been more involved than expected, but I am having a ball.

Tomorrow, I'll be sanding the spackle that I applied today, and I'll be heading to the big box store to get the required paint. Then, I
think I'll have a Denny's breakfast, while I am there. The curved front and back ends are made of 1/8th inch mahogony plywood, which has a very open grain. They will require total covering with spackle in order to hide the voids completely. Oh well, at least it gets me out of the house and away from all of the 80 year old single gals at the Senior Center. Nah, just kidding, I am content being single. Besides, this little rig has only room for one human and my 14 pound Pomeranian dog, Foxy Roxy, who will join me at Shasta along with Miss Piggy. This will be Grant's last Gathering, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Come one and all, and join us, it'll be great.
8) :D  ;) Roly, dreaming teardrops, working on teardrops and finally using teardrops. See you all there.

Sat here and pondered many things while I stared at the trailer from my rocker.

If I use the HF fenders screwed to the trailer side they will be 1 1/4" too narrow to
cover the wheels. When using the stand offs for them do you get splatter on the
trailer from between them and the wall? Opps, cant use them because I inverted
the spring/axle to lower things. What to do?

Then I considered the wall attachment. I'm not thrilled by bolting the floor perimeter
and then gluing in the walls. I've thought to staple some canvas strips to the bottom
before its bolted down to glue to the walls before later applying the canvas side cover.
I wonder about the bond between layers. That may work well.

I'm stalled a little. I actually didn't accomplish much beside confusion today in my
hour between naps. I drew on the foam electric runs for the clearance lights and
considered placement for inside lighting. That was some advancement anyway. :)

Whew... worked on the tear until well after dark! I Kilzed my galley, finished the interior skin installation, pulled all of my DC wiring for lights & fans, and rough fit my Fantastic Fan and AC vent fan above the galley. Darlington race is 21 days away and I've got some work to get done!

My HF fenders fit just fine over my 12 inch HF wheels and tires. I had to add a 1/4 inch spacer behind the wheels to keep the rubber from rubbing the upper 1/4 inch sidewalls that slide down over the other 1/4 inch walls of the lower section. I think it will work just fine, otherwise, I'll probably smell burning rubber when on the freeway, or at least see white smoke trailing behind me. Got some varnish on the interior and the roof painted today. The swing out leg-room section finally works without binding.

I painted my overhead cabinets in the galley and cut my power panel door and mounted my converter panel. I glued my formica on my countertop so I can trim tomorrow. Also installed some of the lights and got those wired up.

Did not do much but I did order a 12" segmented pan brake so as to make some brackets and various other bits and pieces for the Teardrop. Just a wee fella.
For instance the door locks work but I would like to do a more professional job of them. The existing ones are very much prototype and not the flashest when given a close look.
Cost AUD189 but it will be worth it I feel.

Take it easy.
