EPDM Roof with Living Hinge

General Discussion about almost anything Teardrop or camping related

This thread and the photos have been a great help.

Where are you all getting the EPDM material for the roof? Would you post the p/n for the hinge that you got from McMaster-Car?

Thanks

I'm not sure about Texas, but you could look for a Harvey Industries, or ABC Supply. you might be able to buy it from a commercial roofer who is willing to sell you a piece. I used a 5'x16' piece that worked well for me. I did it as one solid piece from front to back right over the hatch.
I'll check out the McMaster Carr Part number you want the heavy duty model. I'll be back in touch here with the number. Walt

The # for the plastic hinge from McMaster Carr is 1588A731 and costs $5.38 a ft. I also got my EPDM rubber roof installed this past weekend, it worked out well as one piece over the hinge.
The piece of EPDM that I used was a leftover remnant from a RV roof job that I did. Check with some of your local roofers, one of them might have a piece left over from a job cheaper than buying a roll from a RV supplier.
Walt, your roof job looks great. I wish my little rig was as far along as your's, I now have to start on my interior.

Thanks Jeff, I started in June and was hoping to have it done by Sept. for a gathering in Ma. but I'll be diving in NC when the gathering takes place so I'll have to catch the one in OCT. it'll be the Noreastear's maiden camping trip. I can't wait to haul her out of the shop into the sunlight. working with all that steel your doing, must be a bit of work. Keep it up times flies before you know it. Walt

Walt, I started my build in early May and hope to at least have it "campable" by late Oct. We plan to attend LCGIII and would feel sort of foolish if we pulled in with our Mack and 37' 5er

To go from a 37' 5er to a tear drop is almost as bad as me. I've camped in a 44' Park model for the last 7 yrs. Can't wait to get on the road I'll be puttin some comfort features in when I decide on my final build. but the first one will be ready soon to start. Walt

I don't think that would be a problem. you can use latex or solvent based bonding adhesive. neither will effect the epoxy. I like the latex product myself it takes a little longer to set up but, is easier to work with. You apply a nice even coat to each side( the substrate and the epdm) I like to recoat near the edge for a good seal. btw I rolld out a 15' peice from the front to the back right over the living hinge. then I folded it in half the long way, then I applied the bonding adhesive.
